MATECHUK - Mrs. Pauline Matechuk of Yorkton fell asleep in the Lord on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the age of 91. Pauline Matechuk (Hrynowetsky) was born on October 16, 1922 on the family farm in the Rhein district in Saskatchewan. She was born the third child to Sam and Annie Hrynowetsky (Matechuk). She attended Kitzman School and worked beside her parents and siblings until she married. On July 15, 1944 Pauline was united in marriage to Nick. Together, they farmed in the Stornoway and later, Kamsack area and raised their five children. Pauline was a hard working woman. Her life revolved around raising her kids, working with and caring for her husband. She was a caregiver to her mother-in-law for many years and later, her own mother. She loved the outdoors, she loved animals. To the end, she loved her dogs and insisted that a dog was a necessity in a home. She always had a huge garden, or two, she loved planting and her flowers. She was the best cook, insisting her kids learn to cook, plant, can, pickle. With all she did, Pauline always found the time to help anyone who asked, often disregarding her own health. Pauline loved to draw, mainly birds and animals, and has left many finished and unfinished drawings for her family to cherish and remember her by. Pauline and Nick retired to Yorkton in 1986 where they lived and loved together. They fished, bird watched, gardened and gave many hours to the church and the hall until Nick's passing. Pauline's health began to fail for several years prior and in 2002, she moved into her daughter and son-in-law's home, which then became her home for 12 years. Here Pauline found a best friend, her neighbor, Agnes, with whom she spent countless hours sitting on the back deck, chatting and solving the problems of the world. Predeceased by her husband, Nick in 2002, her parents, Sam and Annie Hrynowetsky, her sisters, Mary Rurak and Mae Kalenchuk and her brother, Nick Hrynowetsky, she leaves to mourn the following: two daughters, Phyllis (Steve) Cherkas of Regina, Bernie (Craig) Laevens of Yorkton, three sons, Glenn (Marion) of Yorkton, Garry (Valerie) of Regina and Terry (Kim) of Regina: grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, Tim (Tawny) and Austin Cherkas, Greg (Kim) and Grayson Cherkas, Steven Arens and Jocelyn (great-great), Corridawne (Kevin) Kelsea, Kylan and Kelden MacKenzie, Michael Matechuk, Kevin (Vanessa) and Kasie Matechuk, Michelle (Bryan), Zachary and Logan Romanuik, Nicole Matechuk, Chase and Dustin Badham, Philip (Amanda) Matechuk, Des (Kirsty) Laevens, Nicholas, Ava and Ali Laevens, Scott Matechuk, Regan (Garrett), Avie and Perla Massier.
