HALLIDAY - Robert ‘Bob' Halliday beloved husband of Peggy Halliday of the Tonkin district passed away at his farm on Saturday, December 14, 2013. He was seventy-six years of age. Robert Patterson Halliday was born on August 15, 1937 at Yorkton, SK; a son of Thomas and Blanche (nee Pollock) Halliday. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at the Armstrong District School. As a young man he worked at Western Grocers, then ventured off to Calgary to work for a year and soon returned home to help on the family farm at the age of 19. At this time Bob fell in love with farming and agriculture and would continue farming throughout his life. In November of 1957, Bob married his love Peggy (Toth) and lived in Yorkton for ten years where Bob worked at Yorkton Florist and Swift Canadian. His true love of farming called him back and he returned to the farm after inheriting land from his uncle Peter Halliday. Bob enjoyed horses, cattle and grain farming. He truly loved the "land". While Bob and Peggy worked hard on their farm along came a family. Clinton was born on June 12, 1972 and Nicole on February 7th, 1974. For seasonal work while farming he worked at Sask. Wheat Pool in their Livestock Division. Bob decided to rent out his land in the 80's to Dan Lutz and at this time Dan hired Bob as an employee of Lutz Enterprises. After Lutz's retirement Bob continued with his love for the "land" by working with Kirkham Farms. Due to the changing environment in agriculture Bob went to work at Heartland livestock where Peggy was employed. Bob retired from Heartland in 1997 and upon retiring was invited to work at the LaReata Guest Ranch in Kyle, Saskatchewan for Randy Taylor. Bob loved his time there with the horses, cattle and the visiting guests. He shared his love of the rural life with the guests and came back home with many great stories for everyone. Bob worked for Bill Nussbaumer until his illness stopped him from his beloved farming. Bob Halliday was a self-less person. He would help anyone and not expect anything in return! That is how Bob was…. he was one of a kind. He loved to talk and tell stories and would never be afraid of hard work. His loves were Arabian and Hunter horses in which he won many competitions, curling (Tonkin rink), and loved to visit with his friends. Bob really loved spending time with his grandchildren and treasured the time with them. Bob passed away Saturday, December 14th 2013 on the farm he loved. Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, family and all who knew him. Predeceased by his parents; two brothers, James (Anne), Frank; and a brother in law, John Macdonald; Bob leaves to mourn his beloved wife Peggy; son, Clinton (Carissa) their two sons, Keegan and Jayden; daughter, Nicole (Sheldon) Arvay their daughter Lyrek and son Zoe; two sisters, Isabelle MacDonald of Winnipeg and Myrtle (John) Johnson of Kelowna; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
