Obituary of Alex Leontowicz

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Alex Leontowicz, age 93, on November 11th, 2013, at St. Joseph's Home. Alex is survived by wife Adella; sons Ron (Diane), Ken (Marilyn), Morris (Donna), Darrell (Sharon), Terry, Tim (Denise); grandchildren Craig, Karen (Matt), Nicole (Trevor), Kerry, Jena, Blake, Meghan (Tanner), Erin (Matt), Chase; brother Fred; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by son David and grandson Curtis. Alex was born on a farm in the Ituna district. He was the youngest of nine children. At the young age of twenty-one he joined the military where he was deployed on Vancouver Island. In most circumstances, Alex was known to be a man of few words, but whenever there was talk of the war years he was especially silent. It has been only recently that he shared just a few of those difficult war time memories with his family. After the war, Alex returned to his home town of Ituna, married Adella and together they raised a family and farmed in the Ituna District. Alex believed in building a strong family unit and practiced high ethical standards both at home and in farming. Alex was a successful farmer, a proficient mechanic, a passionate Kaiser player, a content fisherman, an adventurous hunter, and most recently a skilled wood carver. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying the Western Producer, and was a CNN/TV news addict. Alex's family and friends could depend on him to be honest, loyal and reliable. His sons and grandchildren are proud to have him as their father and grandfather and aspire to achieve those outstanding characteristics. Alex will be remembered for his brilliant smile, his mild demeanor, his loyalty to his family, to the community and to the church. A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, November 14th, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel at St. Volodymyr Villa (3102 Louise Place, Saskatoon, SK). A Funeral Service will be held at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ituna, SK. on Friday, November 15th, 2013 at time 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery, Ituna, SK. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Foundation, Ituna, SK.
