Obituary of Peter Struk
Mourning the loss of Peter Struk who tragically died in Red Lake on Nov 10 2013. Peter was a wonderful man who loved to surround himself with a lot of wonderful people where ever he went. He helped so many families when they were in need and so he inherited a few extended families with their thankfulness for his generous help. He touched the lives of so many people and friends, and felt blessed and honored to have so many friends. He loved to coordinate fundraisers and raise money for charity groups and always loved to assist in community events and he was always so giving of his time. He loved to travel and he recently discovered a passion for golf, and often mixed travel and golf together with friends to combine all of his pleasures. Peter was born on Jan 15 1960 in Marathon Ontario. For the first five years of his life he lived in Port Coldwell Ontario and then moved to White River Ontario for 1.5 years. In 1967 he moved to Manitouwadge, Ontario where he spent much of his years growing up and gaining his education. He worked with his Dad at C.P. Rail for summers and part-time work doing track maintenance. He then attended Confederation College from 1979-1982 to study Accounting and then Business Administration. While there, he was involved with numerous Student Council activities including Student Council President. After Graduation, he started working at Noranda Mines in Manitouwadge, Ontario as a purchasing agent. When Noranda Mines closed in 1996, he decided to switch careers and moved into the Insurance business with Canada Brokerlink in Marathon Ontario for a few years. During this same time, he was also involved with Manitouwadge Town Council, and with the Manitouwadge Chamber of Commerce. Missing his passion for Purchasing, he then moved to Thunder Bay in 1998 to work as a Purchasing agent at Bombardiere. He even enrolled in courses and completed his designation as PMAC which he was so proud to achieve. He took pride in his work too and he always loved a new challenge. He changed jobs several more times throughout his career, within the Supply/Chain Management Industry which included a move to Balmertown/Red Lake in 2003 for Buyers roles at Placer Dome Mines , and Goldcorp, and then in January 2010 moving to Management roles at Sangold in Bisset Manitoba , and most recently in Rubicon Mines in Red Lake, and then the tragedy struck. Peter was predeceased by his Father Andrew Struk in 1993, Mother Katie Struk in 1997, Grandmother Mary Lukany in 1986 and Grandfather Steve Lukany in 1988. Peter will be forever missed by his sister Mary and her Husband Larry Kachan, and their family in Winnipeg, Wendy Locke of Thunder Bay and all her family, Auntie Helen-one of Peter's 'second' Mothers, and all the rest of his relatives in Yorkton Sask, Verda Dupuis-Peter's other 'second' Mother, and the extended 'Dupuis' family in New Brunswick, and all the too numerous friends to mention which were all so important to Peter some including Manitouwadge, Thunder Bay, Yorkton, Moncton , Red Lake and Balmertown. Cremation will be taking place. A memorial service will be held in Red Lake on Sunday, November 17th at 2 pm in the Red Lake Royal Canadian Legion with Reverend Canon Terry McNear officiating.
