MARTIN - After a hard-fought battle with cancer, Mae passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre with her family by her side. She was 79 years of age. Mae Margaret Martin was born on May 22, 1934 on the family farm north of Hubbard to Robert and Ruth Johnson (nee Battersby). Mae received her education at Hard Rock School. She was united in marriage to Fred Martin on November 28, 1953 at St. Andrew's United Church in Yorkton. During her years in Ituna, Mae was actively involved with the Lakeside United Church Women. Fred and Mae remained on the farm until October 2007, when they moved to Yorkton. During their 55 years of marriage, they were blessed with two children and four granddaughters. Mae was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends, always welcoming visitors into her home for a meal, or a cup of tea. She loved hosting guests, and felt most at home in the kitchen. She could often be found viewing the various activities that her grandchildren participated in. She was a strong-willed, courageous and resilient woman.
