SLOGOTSKI - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Slogotski, beloved husband of Rose on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Rose; their children; Leonard (Shelly) Slogotski of Buchanan, Elaine (Denis) Chatelain of Winnipeg, Theresa (Bruce) MacDougall of Edmonton; Mark Slogotski of Winnipeg; six grandchildren David (Amanda) Slogotski; Erin Slogotski; Janine (Jarred) Nogier all of Saskatoon; Allison (Santino) Beninato of Toronto, Laura (Ian) Jeffrey of Winnipeg; Adam MacDougall of Edmonton; four Great Grandchildren, Jack and Ben Slogotski of Sasktoon; Isla Jeffrey of Winnipeg and Brielle Beninato of Toronto and his sister Elizabeth Clampitt of Lethbridge; sisters-in-law Mary, Annie and Mabel, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by 8 brothers and 3 sisters; Julius, Joe, Ruzalia Szydlowski, Ben, Albert, Walter, Sister Jerome (Helen), Jean (Soloski) Sakundiak, Edwin, Bernard and Ben in infancy, sisters- in-law; Pauline, Nellie and Emily; brothers-in-law Teodor Szydlowski, Frank Soloski, Peter Sakundiak and Lynn Clampitt. Eddie was born on the family homestead on November 29, 1923 to Franciszek and Maria Slugocki. On October 20, 1946 he was united in marriage to Rose Martinuik at St. Ann's R.C. Church, Buchanan. They farmed on the homestead which is still family owned and farmed for the last 110 years. In 1984 they moved to Yorkton and at that time became members of St. Gerard's R. C. Church. Dad took an active part, participating in different ministries, greeter, usher, communion minister and together with Mom took communion to the hospital and nursing homes. They also volunteered in the church hall for many years. During his years on the farm, he was the last chairman of the board of trustees for Monastyr School, his Dad was the first chairman. He was also director for Buchanan Telephone Company, trustee for Dobrowody R. C. Church and was a board member for the Agricultural Committee for Division #6. Eddie also joined the Knights of Columbus on 1954 and 2004 was exemplified to the 4th Degree, together with his son Leonard. With Rose by his side they enjoyed farming, gardening, square dancing, social dancing, playing cards and socializing. They travelled to Hawaii, The Badlands and many family weddings and gatherings. Ed had a gentle soul combined with a whimsical sense of humor. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and close friends. In 2010 he moved to the Bentley with Rose and later in 2011 moved to the Yorkton & District Nursing Home where he spent his remaining days. A special thanks to the staff of Melody Manor for their loving care. A Prayer Service was held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rick Yaholnitsky & Ingrid Prost as lay presiders. Leonard Slogotski offered the reading. The pianist, Allison Kruger led in the singing of the hymns, "Christ Be Our Light", "Psalm 27", and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand". The Holy Rosary led by members of the Knights of Columbus followed the prayers. The Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at St. Gerard's Church with Rev. Fr. Francis Hengen as the Celebrant. The pianist, Diana Hornung led members of St. Gerard's choir in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace", "Psalm 25", "On Eagle's Wings", "Unless a Grain of Wheat", "Song of The Angels" and "How Great Thou Art". The cross bearer was Erin Slogotski and the readers were Leonard Slogotski and Teri MacDougall. Elaine Chatelain led the Prayers of the Faithful. Serving as Gift Bearers were Elaine Chatelain and Teri MacDougall. Members of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd and 4th degrees participated in an honour guard. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Luke at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Mark Slogotski, Bruce MacDougall, Denis Chatelain, David Slogotski, Adam MacDougall and Ian Jeffrey serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Eddie may be made to Saskatchewan Pro Life Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
