PETERSON - Gordon "Sam" Peterson of Theodore, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, September 23, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Sam was born on May 9, 1922, the youngest son of Chris & Dora Peterson. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942, and worked as an airplane mechanic until his discharge in 1945. On May 7, 1954 he married the love of his life, Eunice and together they celebrated 51 years of marriage. They had four wonderful children together. They worked together for 18 years at Sam's Parkland Food Store in Theodore. Together they shared a passion for camping, fishing, travelling and outdoor life, which they passed on to their family who now all enjoy the same. Sam taught his grandkids how to fish, snowshoe, ski, push bush and any activity outdoors. He spent many happy seasons at Child's Lake, surrounded by family and friends. Sam loved to make bets on any hockey or football game. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf fan and loved watching the Riders play. He enjoyed spending hours at the Painted Hand Casino, whether he was winning or losing. If anyone came over to visit Sam you could always be guaranteed a great cup of perked coffee, two biters and a good story. He will be remembered by all for his quick wits and great sense of humor. He always enjoyed a good laugh. Sam is predeceased by his best friend and wife Eunice, his brothers Ralph, Lloyd and Harold, his sisters, Sybil and Hazel. Sam is survived by his four children, Gordon (Sandra) Peterson, Carol (Arnie) Barth, Leonard (Penny) Peterson, Dianne (Larry) Koroll; eight grandchildren; Marcia (Rob), Candice (Chad), Nancy (Rob), Jennifer (Brian), Gordie (Shelby), Courtney, Mark (Karin) and Bryan; great grandchildren; Madison, Jesse and Alex; and a sister Sheila Koshman. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, September 27, 2013 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Molly Kitchen of Westview United Church officiating. The hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross", "In The Garden" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" were included in the service. Tributes to Grandpa were conveyed by Marcia Lane and Candice Massier. The interment took place in the Theodore Village Cemetery with Gordie Peterson serving as the urn bearer. Memorials honouring Gordon's life may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
