Obituary of Joseph Adamiak

Joseph was the oldest son of Michael and Cecelia Adamiak. Joseph received his schooling at Drumague School, completing his Grade 8. At that time Joseph decided he would help run the family farm. Joseph and Cecelia continued on the Adamiak homestead after Michael passed away on October 31, 1958. In 1974 Joseph met Verna (Lutzko) Sorochan and they were united in marriage on August 21, 1976 in Ituna at the St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church. At that time Verna and her daughter Diane moved with Joseph to the Adamiak homestead. Joseph and Verna would have three children, Angela born August 13, 1977, Jaclyn born September 15, 1978 and Jamie born December 16, 1980. With the arrival of their son, their family was complete. In 1988 Joseph and Verna would purchase Kozy Kitchen and would continue to operate it and the family farm. In 2006 Joseph semi-retired and Joseph and Verna continued to operate Kozy Kitchen until his passing. Joseph enjoyed his many years of farming and always enjoyed planting the crop and harvesting. One of Joseph's favorite pastimes in the winter was curling and he was avid curler until arm chair curling was just the right fit for him. He always enjoyed watching a good curling game and loved watching sports of any kind. Spring was always a time of new beginning and after retirement he became an avid gardener and loved puttering around in the garden. Most of all, he loved being on the farm. Joseph was especially proud of his family. His wife, children and grandchildren meant the world to him and he followed their lives with interest and pride. Grandpa always had a knee for them to share his coffee, share his plate and share a hug. Joseph was looking forward to the arrival of his sixth grandchild in November of 2013. In July of 2013 Joseph was hospitalized for a stroke. Verna and their children spent many nights in the hospital with him and will cherish this time in our hearts forever. Joseph would pass away peacefully with Verna at his bedside August 8, 2013 at the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Regina. Joseph leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life his wife of 36 years, Verna. Their children: Angela (Trevor) Polegi of Jedburgh and their children Maddisyn, Stevan and Mayson; Jaclyn of Regina; Jamie (Terilean) of Regina and their bundle arriving in November of 2013; and his step-daughter Diane (Bob) Mennie of Warman and their children Mykaela and Kalen. He also leaves to mourn his sisters-in-law: Linda Smuk of Regina, Jane (Dave) Filarczuk of Ituna, Sharon Cohen (Tim) of Regina. Also Verna's step family: Emily Onieu of Regina, Elaine (Dave) Elash of Ituna, Bernie (Sharon) Grebinski of Regina, Eugene (Debbie) Grebinski of Regina and Orest Grebinski of Regina; along with numerous nieces and nephews and their families. The Prayer Vigil was held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Ituna with Rev. Father Albert Schmitz oficiating. Organist, Paulette van der Helm led members of the Parish Choir and the congregation in the hymns 'Now the Green Blade Rises', Psalm 23, and 'Day is Done'. The Lector was Danielle McLeod, and remembrances were give by Angela, Diane & Jaclyn. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 ftom St. Stanislaus Church with Fr. Schmitz as Celebrant. The Lectors were Sharon Cohen & Marie Hankewich. The crossbearer was Mykaela Mennie, Prayers of the Faithful were led by Linda Smuk, and the Gift-bearers were Maddisyn, Steven & Mayson Polegi & Terrilean Adamiak. Hymns sung were 'Amazing Grace', Psalm 25, 'For the Fruit of all Creation', 'Seeds Scattered & Sown', 'Gift of Finest Wheat', and 'How Great Thou Art'. The interment followed in the Ituna RC Cemetery with Jamie Adamiak, Kalen Mennie, Owen Lutzko, Darren Filarczuk, Daniel Cohen, and Mathew Cohen serving as the casketbearers.Memorials were to the Palliative Care programs of the Pasqua Hospital, Regina. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
