Obituary of Dominic Slaferek

SLAFEREK - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dominic Slaferek, at the age of 73 years. Dominic was born on May 17, 1940 at Yorkton; son of Michael and Sophie (nee Bugoy) Slaferek. The family lived on a farm 5 ½ miles south-east of Otthon. Dominic attended the East Otthon School. As a young man, Dominic helped his parents on the farm. They had horses, cattle and grain farmed. Dominic loved his John Deere Tractor and his truck. After his fathers' death, Dominic and his mother Sophie moved to Otthon in the early 1970's. There Dominic worked for the town of Otthon, cutting grass, doing gardens, driving people to Yorkton. He enjoyed going to MacDonald's for coffee and a burger. He also worked for Ottenbreit Sanitation. He enjoyed being with people, and would help them in anyway he could. In 2008, Dominic moved to Yorkton to a senior's residence. In November of 2010 he was transferred to a care home in Langenburg for two weeks before coming to the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, Orkney House, where he resided until his passing on Tuesday, July 9th . Dominic was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Sophie; and an infant brother also named Dominic. He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory: his sister Vivian Hodgson of Yorkton; his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Violet Slaferek of Edmonton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, July 13, 2013 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Father Francis Hengen officiating. Brittany Revet was the crossbearer. Pianist - Allison Kruger led members of St. Gerard's Parish Choir in the singing of the hymns 'Here I Am Lord', Psalm 25, 'We will Rise Again', 'Be Not Afraid', 'Song of the Angels', and 'How Great thou Art.' The lay-readers were Gabrielle Hamilton & Laverne Rawlick, the gift-bearers were Debbie Revet & Jessica & Brooklyn. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Barbara Coleridge serving as the urnbearer. Condolences may be left at baileysfuneralhome.com Memorials were to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
