Obituary of Gadys Ivadelle Szovek
A memorial folder from the funeral service can be printed under the "Memories" tab, then click "Memorial Program".Program SZOVEK - Mrs. Gladys Szovek wife of the late Leo Szovek of Kelliher passed away on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Fort Qu'Appelle. She was ninety-two years of age. Gladys Ivadelle Szovek was born on April 5, 1921 in the Bankend district of Saskatchewan. She was the eldest child of George and Jessie (nee McKay) Matthews. Gladys grew up on the farm and attended school in the district. On March 23, 1943 Gladys was united in marriage to Leo Szovek. Gladys and Leo farmed north of Kelliher for many years. They were blessed with four children Doreen, Loretta (passed away in infancy), Shirley and Larry. Gladys loved to crochet, knit and sew for everyone. She took pride in her large vegetable garden and her flowers while on the farm. Most of all, mom loved to dance. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Leo; daughter, Loretta; nine brothers and sisters Doug, Bessie, ken, Walter, Carman, Gordon, Isabel, Marg and Donald. She leaves to cherish her life her three children and their families, Doreen (Arnie) Sotski of Medicine Hat, AB, Shirley (Ted) Vass of Fort Qu'Appelle, SK and Larry (Frances) Szovek of Kelliher, SK; five grandchildren, Tianda (Kyle) Laing, Jason Sotski (Jamie Panchyshyn), Sheleena Vass (Tyler Schmidt), Harlan Szovek (Jill Isley) and Brendan Szovek (Rona Severight); great grandchildren, Riley Laing and Braydon Szovek; step great grandchildren, Cori-anna Severight, Nachron Severight and Sienna & Kade Panchyshyn; four sisters, Mary Jane, Elsie, Elva, Irene and one brother, Harvey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A funeral to celebrate Gladys' life was held on Friday, July 12, 2013 from the Kelliher Legion Hall with Crystal Bailey BTh - Certified Celebrant officiating. Tributes and words of remembrance by Gladys' children & grandchildren were read. Special music was ‘I Hope You Dance' by Lee Ann Womack and ‘Dance With Me' by Johnny Reid. Interment followed in the Kelliher Memorial Gardens with Gladys' children serving as the urnbearers. Memorials in memory of Gladys may be made to the Kelliher Memorial Gardens Cemetery Fund or to St. Paul's United Church as gifts of remembrance.
