Obituary of Marjorie Skochylias

Marjorie (nee Smuk) Skochylias was born on August 10, 1925 in the Homefield District of Saskatchewan to Nick and Annie (nee Maystrowich) Smuk. Marjorie received her education at Beaver Hills School and helped her parents on the family farm. After receiving her schooling, Marjorie worked as a housekeeper in Abernethy then making pies and doughnuts at Bradens Cafe in Ituna. On October 16, 1949 Marjorie was united in marriage to Alex Skochylias at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. The couple settled on a farm south of Goodeve then purchased their own land where Marjorie took an active part in the farming operation. On August 11, 1958 the couple were blessed with a lovely daughter, Debra. In 1986 Alex passed away and later that year with the help of Debbie and son-in-law Bob they moved the farmhouse into Goodeve. In June of 2008 Marjorie moved into St. Anne's Christian Centre in Ituna where she made a lot of new friends. On October 2012 she became a resident of the Ituna Pioneer Lodge where she continued to reside until entering her eternal rest on Monday, July 8, 2013 at the age of 87 years. Marjorie enjoyed growing a large garden, making chiffon cakes, taking pride in making the best pickles, watching TV, crocheting, embroidery, playing cards and enjoying her lovely yard. Her most enjoyment was spending time with Debbie, Bob, her grandson Jesse and his wife Debbie and their son Kody. Marjorie was involved with the Ukrainian Catholic Ladies and an active member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Goodeve. Predeceased by her parents; her husband Alex; brothers Sam, Joe and his wife Mary; brothers-in-law Isadore Florek, Joe Mish and Gilbert Rathgeber. Marjorie leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Debbie (Bob) Burak of Goodeve; her grandson Jesse (Debbie) and their son Kody of Yorkton; sisters Mildred Florek, Lillian Mish and Geraldine Rathgeber; sister-in-law Gertrude Lier; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
