Mr. Stan Stephenson of Yorkton passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 86 years of age. Stanley Orville Stephenson was born on August 18, 1926 in Davidson, Saskatchewan; the third son of Arthur and Nellie (nee Stanley) Stephenson. Stan was raised on the farm at Mistatim, SK. Stan went to work for the Tisdale CO-OP Creamery in 1942 to help support his family. Stan married Lena May McShannock on August 2, 1946, where they continued to live in Tisdale before moving to Nipawin, Kamsack, Yorkton & North Battleford, then returning to Yorkton, the community they have called home since 1976. Community was a huge part of Stan's life: joining the Kinsmen Club in Nipawin in 1951, becoming president in 1954. He served two terms on the Kamsack Town Council and was a member of the committee to build the Eaglestone Lodge. He belonged to the BPOE - Elks, joined the King Solomon Masonic Lodge #58, becoming a member of the Parkland Shrine Club in Yorkton and North Battleford, being president in 1968 & 1976. Stan became president of the Chamber of Commerce in Yorkton in 1983, and was recently honoured with a life-time membership. Stan also was a member of the United Commercial Travelers, a director of the Saskatchewan Dairy Foundation, a member of the Kiwanis, a director of the Yorkton Economic Development, and the York lake Golf Club. In 2000, Stan received the Yorkton Meritorius Award for Service. Stan enjoyed family and friends, spending many wonderful occasions entertaining all. One of his favorite sayings was: we're so lucky that we have such a good family. There were many good summers spent with family at Madge Lake. Stan was predeceased by his parents, Art & Nellie; wife Lena; brothers James & Lyle; in-laws, Roy & Nora, Harold, Don & Hervelene McShannock and children Linda Faye and Larry Drew.
