Obituary of Helen Marie Shingoose

SHINGOOSE - Helen Marie Shingoose was born April 12, 1917 to Fredrick and Philomene Allary. Her wish was given to her on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at 10:22 a.m. at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Lebret Residential School is where her education was received, after which time she returned home to Crescent Lake. There she met her husband, Walter Shingoose and had a family of seven sons and one daughter. Helen was an interesting person with distinguished qualities and gifts. Her work of sewing clothing, leather products, tipis, tents, cushions and star quilts allowed her to go on her pow wow trail in the spring, pick berries in season, gather her medicinal treasures and travel to visit family or friends. She met many people on journeys that took her through the United States and Canada. Keeping up on the news and politics of the day, Helen was knowledgeable and wise to the world. To read her weekly papers, start a new sewing project or sit in her rocking chair and chat on the phone brought her pleasure. The pink house on the hill in Springside was her sanctuary as she graciously aged. The beautiful family she had been blessed with is the legacy of Helen. Whether near or far she had all family members in her heart. Over the span of her long and influential life she has shared her accomplishments, talents, humor and passion for life. Although frail in the sunset of her life Helen had faith like the wind; you can't see the wind but, you can feel it. Helen leaves to cherish her memory; her children, Wilmar (Ruth), Mary (Harvey), Wally (Janice), Dave (Bernice) and Mindy. All her grandchildren; sisters: Mary Jane Brazeau and Bernice Selsted. Helen joins her parents; brothers, Isadore, William and and Alexander; sisters Celina, Edna and Yvonne; her sons Harvey, Buck and Lester; and her grandchildren.
