Lawrence Michael Korchinski born on November 7, 1942 of Ituna, SK passed away at the Ituna Health Centre on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 after an eighteen month battle with cancer. Lawrence was the eldest son born to John J Korchinski and Julia (nee Bryck). He was born on the family farm south of Hubbard. He attended Hubbard School; St. Joseph's College and graduated from Ituna High School in 1962. Lawrence then completed a business accounting course at Success Business College in Regina. He then was employed at The Saskatchewan Wheat Pool head office in Regina. In 1964 Lawrence returned to Hubbard to farm with his father. Lawrence then married Therese Wawruck in 1966. Lawrence and Therese were blessed with two daughters, Tara (1973) and Trudy (1976). Lawrence continued to farm until he retired in 2007. Lawrence was very involved in his community serving on many volunteer boards from sports to economic development. He was a political junkie and paid very close attention to the politics in Canada as well as the world. Lawrence was very passionate and knowledgeable about Ukraine. He took special interest in the new democracy in Ukraine and was an integral part of the Canadian Election Monitoring Group that was present during the Orange Revolution in 2004. He was an election monitor for the following three elections. He had the ability to mesmerize people by his commentary on the politics of Ukraine. He immersed himself in Ukrainian politics and through the Canadian Embassy had met many Ukrainian cabinet ministers and aids. This involvement spurred a desire for him to return to the land of his fore fathers. In 2008 and 2009, he had then made an additional three trips back to Ukraine and Russia with the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership as an exhibitor. Lawrence travelled extensively throughout the country and was overwhelmed with the vastness of the agricultural land. Through his travels he had met and became friends with numerous farm operators. In 2009 Lawrence met Tetiana Mokliakova. They both shared the same interest for their love of Canada and Ukraine and the politics of each country. This passion lead to many discussions and yes some intense political exchanges. Lawrence and Tetiana exchanged marriage vows on April 18, 2010. He was predeceased by his parents John J (1973) and Julia (2000).
