DUBIEL - Mrs. Darlene Dubiel of Yorkton, beloved wife of Alvin Dubiel entered eternal life on May 28, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 65 years, 11 months and 17 days of age. Darlene (nee Solomon) Dubiel was born on June 11, 1947, in Yorkton. She was one of three children born to Frank and Anne Solomon. She was raised in Parkerview, where she received her elementary education, followed by high school in Ituna. She married Alvin on August 9, 1969, and they began their life together in Yorkton. Through the years two sons were born, Craig and Curtis. Darlene fondly remembered working at the Co-op, the Credit Union, and finally for the City of Yorkton in a variety of positions. She did take a few years off to do a great job of raising her boys. In her childhood, Darlene's parents owned the café in Parkerview, and so began her love of Coca Cola memorabilia. She accumulated an impressive collection over the years. She also loved to collect beer cans and had people all over the world saving them for her. Darlene loved being out at the farm, whether she was mowing the lawn, taking meals to the field, running equipment, or simply just watching the farming in action. She also loved baseball and avidly followed the Blue Jays. During ball season, the game was usually on in the background. There were many gatherings of family and friends. She was a very friendly, very social person who loved spending time with "The Gang" playing cards, travelling, swapping stories, and shopping together. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was always available to spend time with her grandchildren and loved to be a part of their lives, including simply watching them eat, being the helping grandparent at pre-school, attending graduation, and coming to watch anything that her grandchildren were involved in. We are all so blessed to have had such a special mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose memories will be cherished and treasured forever. Darlene was predeceased by her parents; an infant brother, Raymond; her father and mother-in-law, Mike and Mary Dubiel; and her sister-in-law Ilene (Clarence) Repka. She is survived by her loving husband, Alvin; her children, Craig (Kim) and Curtis (Robin); her grandchildren, Stephanie, Bryden, Jorden, Clayton, and Anthony; her great-grandchild, Jilliann; her sister, Donna (Peter) Spelchen; her brother-in-law Raymond (Olga) Dubiel; and many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Prayers were held on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Father Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R. officiating. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Monday, June 3, 2013 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and parish choir members. The cross bearer was Stephanie Dubiel and the epistle readers were Donna & Melissa Spelchen. Named as honourary pallbearers were Cecilia Denesyk, Betty Karpiuk and the "The Gang". The interment followed in the Garden of St. John at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Trent Halabuza, Dean Spelchen, Jerry Karpiuk, Tim Dubiel, Eric Hibbert and Bryden Dubiel serving as the casket bearers. A eulogy was shared by Betty Karpiuk (aunty) and a tribute was given by Donna Spelchen (sister). Words of appreciation were conveyed by Robin Dubiel (daughter-in-law). Memorials honouring Darlene's life may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Mary's Church Building Fund as gifts of remembrance.
