OYSTRECK - Garry John Oystreck, age 57 of Rhein, Saskatchewan was taken suddenly on Sunday, May 26, 2013 in his home on the family farm. Born May 3, 1956 to John and Emily (Ewasiuk) Oystreck of Rhein at the Yorkton Union Hospital, Garry spent most of his life in Rhein and on the family farm. Garry started his schooling at Rhein Elementary School, then to the Yorkton Composite and graduating in 1973 from the Yorkton Regional High School. In 1979 he married his loving wife and high school sweetheart Shelley (Schwartz). He attended S.I.A.S.T Wascana in Moose Jaw from 1980-82 where he studied carpentry. Garry worked at Logan Stevens and Webers Construction until his father fell ill in the early 80s when he quit his job to operate and develop the family farm. Garry and his wife Shelley were a team and worked very hard on the farm, making all their decisions and plans together. His sons, Ryan and Dean, whom he was very proud of helped on the farm every year growing up and always came back for seeding and harvest. Garry worked hard and played hard. He had a passion for carpentry and woodworking, making everything from small wooden horses and Christmas decorations to decks, barns, sheds and houses. He was active in the community as the President of Rhein Minor Sports. He also coached minor hockey with the Rhein Eagles and played hockey himself for many years with Rhein and Saltcoats. He played fastball with Rhein and Hudson Bay, winning many championships. In more recent years he enjoyed spending his spare time at their cottage at Lake of the Prairies, fishing, boating and socializing with his wife, friends and family. He would also find all the jobs his neighbors needed done and have their days planned for them before they woke up. Garry and his wife Shelley spent the last 3 winters vacationing in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. They were very excited about spending many winters there and Garry had a lot of plans and projects for them to do together. On Sunday morning when he came to the house from checking the fields he proudly proclaimed, "I seeded my last acre!" and was looking forward to retirement. Garry was predeceased by his father John. He is survived by his loving wife Shelley; sons Ryan and Dean; mother Emily Oystreck; in-laws Mervin and Helen Schwartz; sister-in-law Debbie Chesney; his sisters: Shirley (Doug) Robson, Linda Cook, Lavina (Jim) Mykietiuk, Mavis (Ernie) Todoschuk, Debbie (John) Todoschuk; best friends Craig and Adrianne Walsh, Randy Herman, Ross and Roberta Lindenbach; Godson Evan Todoschuk; Goddaughter Brandi Chesney-Kufor and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews & many, many friends. He will be forever loved & missed. "You were always there when we needed you, No task too great, no task too small, With a loving heart and helping hand, For us you did them all. Thanks for the years you gave us, And for the time we all shared, We only pray that when you left us, You know how much we loved you and cared." A memorial service to celebrate Garry's life was held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein with Rev. Lori James officiating. Organist, Arlene Stiglitz led members of the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'On Eagles Wings', and 'Thy Holy Wings'. A Celine Dion selection 'My Heart Will Go On' was also played. Family friend Craig Walsh gave a tribute to Garry. The interment followed in the Christ Lutheran Parish Cemetery with son Ryan as the urnbearer.
