RODYCH - Mrs. Alice Rodych of Yorkton, formerly of Springside and the Parkerview district passed away on May 9, 2013 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home at the age of 92 years. Alice was born on July 10, 1920, in Sheho District, a daughter of Joseph Fransishyn and Maria (Swirsky). Alice married John Rodych on October 18,1936 residing in the Beckenham area and worked for a farm couple for a short time in Alberta. The couple worked at a sawmill camp operated by Alice's brothers for three years east of Carrot River Saskatchewan, with Alice as the camp cook, sons Eugene and William were also in camp with them. In 1945 brought another livelihood when a family farm was purchased south west of Parkerview Saskatchewan and was farmed until retirement in 1977 when they moved to Springside Saskatchewan. Alice always grew a large garden and was kept busy with canning, baking and a love for embroidering. Alice became a widow July 1995, continuing to live in Springside until 2007. She spent the last three years at Yorkton & District Nursing Home in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Eugene (Lee) of Deep River, Ontario, grandsons Michael (Cora), Stephan (Christine), great grandson Kevin, great granddaughter Samantha, granddaughter Kelly (Peter) Naylor, great grandson Jonathon and great granddaughter Emily; son, William (Gloria) of Brampton Ontario, granddaughter Erica; daughter, Johanna (Garfield) Hnatiuk of Melfort, Saskatchewan, grandson, Mark (Elizabeth), great granddaughters, Emily and Mikayla, grand daughter, Erin and Pat Coolican, great granddaughters, Hannah, Willow and Piper. She is survived by sisters, Molly Bortnick of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Angela Lauk of Los Angeles California. Alice was predeceased by her husband John; brothers, John, Mike, Stanley, Peter, Julian, and sisters, Pearl Taschuk, Pauline Fransishyn, Rose Derkacz and Jean Evaschesen. Prayers were held on Monday, May 13, 2013 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Tuesday, May 14th at St. Mary's Church with Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita & Parish Choir Members. The cross bearer was Mark Hnatiuk (grandson) and the epistle reader was Erin Hnatiuk (granddaughter). The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Victor Rodych, Orest Senkowski, Pat Coolican, Ken Hnatiuk, Garfield Hnatiuk and Michael Evaschesen serving as the casket bearers.
