SOLONENKO - Mr. Dennis Solonenko of the Stornoway district, beloved husband of Sylvia was suddenly and tragically taken away from his loving wife, family and friends while doing what he loved on April 22, 2013 at the age of 63 years. Dennis Michael Solonenko was born June 6, 1949 at Yorkton, Saskatchewan, son of Steve and Anne (Pidhorodetsky). He attended school in Stornoway up to Grade 8, at which time he realized that farming was his passion and decided to make it his career. On August 21, 1971, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Kowal. The couple farmed in the Stornoway area, working together with his parents and their children to accomplish a successful farming business. Dennis enjoyed all aspects of farming. He expanded the family business doing custom work, cleaning, drying and hauling grain. His greatest joy was operating heavy equipment which included clearing land, road construction and excavating. Dennis was a very skilled and experienced farmer who never lost his desire to improve his farming knowledge. He enjoyed going on farm tours, visiting countries including Ukraine, Germany, France and the USA. He always enjoyed having great fun. His New Year's parties were always his special way to connect with and show his appreciation for family, friends, good neighbors and customers. His greatest pride was his three children. They blessed him with four precious grandchildren which he adored and spent as much time with them as possible. As Cortney and Devin followed in their father's footsteps they took on more responsibilities of the family farm; allowing Dennis and Sylvia to enjoy more free time together and satisfy his new hunger for travel. They travelled to Hawaii, Las Vegas, went on a Caribbean cruise and most recently, travelled to Paris which they enjoyed immensely. He was also an active member of the Rhein Lions Club for many years. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Sylvia and children: Cortney (Crystal) of Stornoway and their children, Jordann and Lyric, Coralie Nott (Jason) of Roblin and their children, Parker and Holdyn, Devin (Sarah) of Stornoway. His sisters: Phyllis Fitzpatrick (Harvey) from Yorkton, Judy Remenda (Steve) from Langley, BC., Adeline Nickel (Larry) from Lethbridge, AB. As well as numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dennis was predeceased by his parents Anne in 1999 and Steve in 2005. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered for his good humor, love for life, his willingness to lend a hand and never holding a grudge, and the memories made with family and friends.
