Obituary of Kataryna "Katie" Sass

Katie Sass was born on November 6, 1922 in the Goodeve district of Saskatchewan, a daughter to Stephan and Anna (nee Machula) Dumalski. Katie received her education at Stryj School near Goodeve. She helped her parents and siblings on the farm and later worked at the honey factory in Winnipeg. On November 8, 1947 Katie married her sweetheart Walter Sass at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. They farmed for 59 years near Fenwood where they raised their five daughters. Katie was an extraordinary woman with many talents. She loved her vegetable and flower gardens. Katie also enjoyed reading and working with her hands, sewing dresses for her daughters, knitting and doing fancy needlework. Katie loved her family farm. Family always came first for Katie and Walter. Katie's passion was preparing meals for her family and friends, especially on special occasions where her home was always filled with life, love and laughter. For the last 15 years Katie and Walter enjoyed their home in Melville after moving off the farm. They gained many new friends and had become known as the "sweet couple" in town. It is with great sadness that the family mourns the passing of Katie on Sunday, April 14, 2013 with her loving husband Walter and family by her side. Katie was predeceased by her parents, Stephan and Anna Dumalski; brothers Bill (Nettie) Dumalski and Alex Dumalski; brother-in-law Mike Kosteroski. Katie leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Walter of 65 years of marriage; 5 daughters Darlene (Clarence), Sylvia, Mariann, Carolyn (Chris) and Donna (Craig); 15 grandchildren Colin (Trena), Devin, Jared (Bree), Ryan (Kim), Tara (Andy), Brett (Ashley), Kyla (Kyle), Kristy, Jason (Paige), Amanda, Brenden, Jayden (Alyson), Calan, Megan and Braden (Nikki); 8 great grandchildren Thomas, Keller, Kierden, Kayley, Hayden, Gavin, Keira and Owen; sister Rose Kosteroski and sister-in-law Annie Dumalski.
