A memorial folder from the funeral service can be printed under the "Memories" tab, click "Memorial Program". Harvey passed away peacefully to be with his Lord on April 8, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Heath Care Centre. He was born September 20, 1937 in Yorkton to Hugo and Violet Hertzke, the oldest of four children. His family lived on a farm in the Gorlitz area and he started his education at West Ebenezer School and then continued at the Orkney Stone School when the family moved to the Orkney District. When he was young he enjoyed playing hockey in the winter on those frozen ponds and baseball in the summer. He loved animals, even the smallest runt of a kitten he would nurse back to health and let it sleep lovingly on his lap. When he was 25 he went to Northern BC to work at a logging company for a couple of years, then returned to Sask and bought his own truck and did some hauling for various companies. But, he missed farm life so he soon returned to help his Dad run the farm. After his father's death in 1990 he took over the farm with his mom. He was an extremely strong man and could handle all tasks of farm life. Harvey's health failed in the last few years and he became a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. He will always be remembered for that big smile on his face. He was predeceased by his father Hugo Hertzke. He is survived by his mother Violet Hertzke of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home; brother Allan (Geraldine) Delta, BC; sisters Iona Jardine, Surrey, BC and Gail Sakal, Swan River, MB; aunts Leona (John) Perra, Dapp AB and May Ruetch, Hamilton, ON; nieces Linda(Bob) Chancey, Ladner, BC, Marilyn (Rick)Morrois, Ladner, BC; nephews Brian Herzke, Vancouver BC, Brad(Claire)Herzke, Langley BC, Jason (Renee)Sakal, Swan River MB, and Kevin Sakal, Swan River MB.
