Obituary of Mike Spezowka

SPEZOWKA - Mike Spezowka, resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home passed awy on Friday, April 5, 2013. He was 87 years of age. Mike Spezowka was born in the family home in Lasalle, Ontario on March 19, 1926. Mike was the youngest child of Wasyl and Jennie (nee Hladiuk) Spizawka. The next year Mike came with his family to Saskatchewan to a farm in the Drobot district. Mike attended the Drobot School until grade 8, and after that time stayed at home to help on the farm. In 1953 Mike met Adeline Styfunyk and on October 17, 1954 the couple were married at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Canora. The couple moved into Mike's parent's homestead and farmed two quarters for about nine years. During this time Mike also purchased a cream route and delivered cream to the CO-OP Creamery in Yorkton for 12 years. In 1963 the family moved to Theodore for two years before moving to Lamming Mills in British Columbia. There Mike was employed at a sawmill. Following a short time there the family moved back to Theodore. Mike worked for the Dept. of Highways and also drove gravel truck for several different contractors. Eventually he purchased his own gravel truck and contracted out his services, first to Kirsch Construction from Middle Lake, then to W.F. Botkin Construction from Regina. After Adeline's passing in 1988, Mike met Anna Smitsnuk and the couple were married in 1989. Mike and Anna lived in Yorkton for five years before moving back to Theodore. Anna passed away on January 14, 2007. In 2009 Mike became a resident of the Foam Lake Nursing Home, where he resided until coming to the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. Mike had many passions in his life, he loved to hunt, fish, trap and travel, and he also had a great love of gardening. Mike was a devout Christian, a true husband, a caring father, and a friendly neighbor. Predeceased by his father Wasyl (1967); mother Jennie (1970); a sister, Mary Paschishnyk; and by brothers Harry Spizawka and John Spezowka. He leaves to mourn his passing his two sons: Martin (Wendy) of Hinton, AB; Murray (Pat) of Yorkton; grandchildren: Farrah Kit (Kevin), Melissa, Dustin (Heather), & Ryan (Chantel); great grandchildren: Felicia, Madison, Summer, Casey & Troy. Also a sister: Sophie Senkow of Melville; and a brother George (Alice) Spezowka of Saskatoon; as well as nephews, nieces, and his many other relatives and friends. MIke's family wishes to thank the staff of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home for the excellent care given to Mike during his time there.The funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Yorkton with Pastor Tony Yorgov officiating, assisted by Byron Aaserude. Organist, Vange Shipowick led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'I Come to the Garden Alone', 'In A Little While We're Going Home', 'When the Roll is Called Up Yonder', and 'How Great Thou Art'. The interment took place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with William Styfunyk, Terry Vehnon, Bill Spezowka, Dustin Spezowka, Ryan Spezowka & Ken Sharp serving as the casketbearers. Condolences may be left at baileysfuneralhome.com. Memorials were to the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home. Service Information
