Obituary of Eugene Nickolayou

(The Memorial Folder from the funeral can be printed or viewed under the Memories Tab - Memorial Program) NICKOLAYOU - Eugene John Nickolayou, beloved husband of Betty Nickolayou passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 66 years. Eugene was born to Humphrey & Sophie Nickolayou on June 30, 1946 at Yorkton. Eugene graduated in 1968 from the University of Saskatchewan and came back to farm on the family farm with his dad and brother Morris. On November 9, 1968 he married Betty Kozak at Sheho, SK and they raised two sons, Mark & Corwin. With his passion for agriculture Eugene became a seed grower in the 70's and continued to be involved with the Wheat Pool Committee, the Ag Board and the Foam Lake Marketing Club. In 2010, Eugene retired from many enjoyable years of farming and continued living on the farm until his passing. He always made time for family and friends and enjoyed special moments with his kids and grandkids. He said "I will devote my free time to family & friends after retirement". Predeceased by his father Humphrey in 1994; his mother Sophie in 2011; and by his father-in-law, Alex Kozak in 1993. He leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life, Betty; his son Corwin; his son Mark (Raissa) of Regina; four grandchildren: Auckland (12), Chase (10), Hutton (6) and Illia (3). Also his brother Morris (Fran) of Saskatoon; brother-in-law Randy (Cindy) Kozak of Yorkton; mother-in-law Mary Kozak of Foam Lake; aunt Mary Koback of Vermillion, AB; aunt Fran Krushen of Ituna; and aunt Olga Dmyterko of Regina; as well as numerous cousins, their families, and his many friends. ‘Geno, we will miss you and love you always.' A visitation for family and friends was held on Thursday at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Funeral Services were held on Friday, April 5, 2013 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Very Rev. Father Rodion Luciuk of St. Mark the Evangelist Orthodox Church in Yorkton officiating. Rev. Fr. Vladimir Lysak sang the responses. Colin Kostichuk served as the crossbearer. The committal service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Methodius Kushko C.Ss.R. officiating. Brian Dmyterko, John Spykerman, Bryce Penteliuk, Fred Butuk, Ed Skihar, Jerry Timoffee, Greg Fedusiak and Barry Kozak served as the casketbearers. Vichnaya Pamiat! - Eternal Memory!
