GORSKI - Mr. Merlin Gorski of Yorkton, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre following a brief illness. He was 62 years of age. Merlin Gorski was born on May 20, 1950 at Foam Lake, the youngest of six children born to Bill and Cassie Gorski. 'Kid' was involved in school sports, hockey and from an early age cars, motorcycles and anything with an engine fascinated him, a hobby that continued into his adult life. In 1974 he married Jolene Kowalchuk in Foam Lake, and they started their life in Saskatoon. Merle accepted a transfer with Canada Post to Yorkton, where he finished his career, retiring in 2010. Two sons were born, Lance and Kirk, and the family was soon involved in the boys activities, coaching hockey, soccer and restoring cars when they became old enough to drive. Summer times were spent at Fishing Lake, out on the boat or on the local golf course. The last few years, a camper became his new toy & the family explored new fishing holes. As the grandchildren came along they provided a new generation for him to share his passion of sports and engines. Merle eventually acquired an old Willys Jeep, this opened a new facet for him to delve deeper into his interest of war history & appreciation of war vets. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Gerry; sister Bernice Waithman; brother-in-law Eugene Webster; nephew Harlan Morisseau; great nephew Aidan Conway; and his in-laws, Joe & Audrey Kowalchuk. He is survived by his wife Jolene; sons Lance (Sandy) and their boys Jessie, Garett & Nolan; Kirk (Christine) and their children Christian, Kale, Kaden & Kenzie; sisters: Lorraine Webster & Diane (Lou) Morisseau; brother Larry; brother-in-law Dave Waithman; and Jolene's sister Lorilee (Miles) Evans, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and his other relatives and friends. An informal time of remembrance was held on Saturday evening, March 9, 2013 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Crystal Bailey, B.Th. officiated with family members participating in the service. Charity Evans gave the eulogy. Merle was not big on formalities and later this year his family will gather in his honor to share laughs, tears and a good steak. We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the staff of the Yorkton Hospital, Bailey's, in-laws, family, good neighbors and friends for the support & compassion shown through kind words, thoughts, gifts of food and just being there for us. Condolences may be left at baileysfuneralhome.com. Memorials were to one's charity of choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
