Obituary of Murray Bright

BRIGHT - Sadly we announce the passing of Murray Edward Bright of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home on February 16, 2013. Murray attended school at the Pines and the Pelly High School. He farmed on the Pelly homestead for 60 years and found time to get involved in many organizations. Murray served as the local trustee for the Pines School and then on the Pelly Central Board and Kamsack School Division. He was also on the executive of the Saskatchewan School Trustees Association for five years. Having served as a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Committee, he spent the last thirty years as Chairman. Murray was on the board of the Pelly Livestock Shippers Association and the Whitebeach Community Pasture Board. He was director of the Fort Pelly Rural Telephone Company and later on the Pelly Rural Telephone Company. In later years he was Chairman of the Gateway Co-op Association. Murray received the Garden of Saskatchewan Award in 1987. In 2009 Murray and Helen sold the farm and retired to Yorkton. Murray was predeceased by his parents Ethel and Roland Bright, sister Janet Arndt and brother-in-law Myron Popp. He is survived by his loving wife Helen, son David Bright (Lorna), sister Carol Popp and brother John (Rosemary) Bright. Also nephews Michael (Jocelyn) Popp and Robert Popp, Jeremy Bright and Marcus (Sandy) Bright and nieces Nancy Dayton (Jeff) and Anna Bright and brother-in-law August Arndt. The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Yorkton with Rev. Kim Salo officiating. The organist, Judy Berg led the parish choir in the singing of the hymns, "Abide With Me" and "Morning Has Broken". The eulogy was presented by John Bright. The interment followed in the Garden of St. John at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Robert Popp, Kyle Korneychuk, Norman Hydamacka, Lawrence Hydamacka, Jeff Dayton and Fred Konkin serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Murray may be made to the New Regional Health Centre in Yorkton.
