Obituary of Catherine Anna ""Annie"" Kyba

KYBA - Mrs. Annie Kyba, a resident of Yorkton & District Nursing Home entered eternal life on January 22, 2013. She was 105 years of age. Catherine Anna Kyba (Oucharek) was born December 8, 1907 in Rhein SK in the then called Mennofeldt District. She was baptised and confirmed December 24, 1907 by Rev. Achille Delaere, C.Ss.R. She was the daughter of Ukrainian pioneers John and Catherine (nee Puchala) Oucharek who settled in the Dnieper district in 1898. She attended Kitzman School until grade 8 and in 1942 married Michael Kyba. They remained married for 52 years until Michael's death in1994. Michael and Anna had six children out of which three survived into adulthood. Mary, Martha and Orest died shortly after birth. Surviving are Lawrence, Iris (Wallace), twin to Orest and Daniel (Jane). Anna is predeceased by her parents and her six brothers: Maksym (Max), Iosef (Joseph),Mychailo (Michael), Nykola (Nick), Petro (Peter), Ivan (John) and a sister who died in infancy. She is survived by her grandchildren Michael (Audrey), Joseph, Morgan (Chadwick LaMarsna) and Christopher Wallace and great grandchildren Gracelynn & Jacob, Merrick, Olivia & Greyson; a stepson William Shordee and numerous nieces and nephews. Michael and Anna farmed in the Dnieper district until 1973 when they retired and moved to Yorkton. They together regularly attended services St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Anna was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League and through her excellent cross-stitching skills provided fine pieces of embroidery to the church, friends and relatives. She was also a member of the Golden Agers Seniors Club. She was a hard-working diminutive person with a lively sense of humour who in her later years indulged in travel visiting friends, relatives and children in Saskatchewan, Alberta and California. She kept her health and reasonable capacity for self-reliance until her late 90's when she was admitted to the Yorkton and District Nursing Home where she remained until her death. Prayers were held on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R., Very Rev. Boris Kyba, C.Ss.R. and Most Rev. Bishop Emeritus Michael Wiwchar, C.Ss.R. officiating. The Holy Rosary led by members of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League preceded the prayers. Requiem Divine Liturgy was held on Monday, January 28th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Very Rev. Boris Kyba, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The cantors were Laurie Fedorowich (Prayers) and Anne Pitsula (Liturgy). The cross bearer was Evan Derow and the epistle reader was Delores Oucharek. Members of UCWLC participated in an Honour Guard. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Tony Oucharek, Lawrence Antony, Michael Oucharek, Kenneth Brischuk, Myron Derow, Sheryl Kohanski, Orest Oystryk and Nicholas Antony serving as the casket bearers.
