Obituary of Gerald Vehnon

VEHNON - Gerald Jerry Vehnon died on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was born on June 28, 1955 to John and Mary (nee Boychuk) Vehnon in Theodore, Saskatchewan. Gerald grew up on the family farm in the Parkerview district and attended school in the district. At the age of nine he moved with his family into Theodore. Gerald finished his Grade ten in 1971 and later did some upgrading. Jerry worked for Potts Construction in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan where he did bookkeeping and payroll. He also held various other jobs throughout the years. Jerry loved music and song writing. He wrote hundreds of songs over the years. He played the guitar, sang, wrote poetry and short stories. When visiting with Jerry you were sure to hear him reminisce about the good old days. He liked to wear dress shoes or his cowboy boots almost everywhere he went. He was predeceased by his mother and father and leaves many family and friends to cherish his memory, including his partner, Rosie; his brother Terry and his family; his godfather, Pete Baranesky; his lifelong friend, Martin Spezowka; as well as other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton with Crystal Bailey, B.Th, certified funeral celebrant officiating. The musical selections, ‘Rose' and ‘A Life So Changed' were played. Interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Martin Spezowka, Pete Baranesky, Dustin Spezowka, David Gorecki, Iris Rae and Dave Tillusz serving as the casketbearers. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com . Memorials in Jerry's name may be made towards Palliative Care or to the Mental Health Drop In Centre. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home Yorkton.
