VAUDNER - Courtney Vaudner of Melville, husband of the late Mrs. Betty (nee Aldous) Vaudner passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the Regina General Hospital. He was seventy two years of age. He was predeceased by his father Arthur (1971), his mother Maybelle (1992) and his wife Betty (1990). He leaves behind to mourn numerous cousins and many friends from Melville and area. Courtney Daryll Vaudner was born in Assiniboia on June 20, 1940. He attended school in Assiniboia up to Grade 11. He graduated from Rockglen and then attended Teacher's College in Regina. Courtney began his teaching career in Melfort. He then completed his Bachelor of Education and moved to Melville in 1965. Court started teaching at the old Melville High School and then moved to the Melville Comprehensive School in 1971. Once in Melville he met Betty Aldous and in 1976 they were married in Yorkton. When not teaching they spent time traveling and relaxing at home entertaining their many friends and neighbours. Courtney retired in 2005 but continued to teach for one more year. He taught a variety of subjects during his career but English was always his first love. He completed his career as Vice Principal of the Melville Comprehensive School. Courtney was also heavily involved with extracurricular activities during his teaching career. He primarily coached volleyball and basketball for most of his career. He also directed the high school drama club for many years. Those who knew Courtney will recognize his love of his students and his commitment to quality education. On a professional level Court was always concerned with improving education and the quality of teaching. He was involved in developing curriculums for Social Studies and English. Court was also an STF Councillor for some twenty one years. Courtney was recognized for his many achievements in teaching and community service. Some of his many awards include: The SHSAA Service Award, City of Melville Volunteer Award, Citizen of the Year for Melville, Prime Minister Award for Teaching Excellence and The Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor Volunteer Medal. In the early 90's Courtney became involved in Municipal Government. He was a councillor for the City of Melville for nine years. During this time he served on numerous community boards and organizations. Court was also a long-time member of the Elks and the Shriners. Courtney was always a friend to anyone who met him and knew him. He will always be remembered for his kindness and wit. Court was a dear friend who will be missed by all those who knew him. An evening tribute service was held on Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 from First United Church in Melville. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, December 6th, 2012 from First United Church with Rev. Susan Manning officiating. The organist, Shirley Blakley led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'Here I Am Lord' and 'Just A Closer Walk With Thee'. Special Music was sung by LaVerne Spratt. Tributes and words of remembrance were given by friends and collegues, Wally Oucharek and Walter Streelasky. Honourary Bearers were all of those teachers that Courtney taught with in the first few years after coming to Melville. Interment followed in the Melville Municipal Cemetery with Barry Hoffos, O.J. Kozey, Wally Oucharek, Les Blakley, Warren Gelowitz and Bob Simpson serving as casketbearers. Memorials may be made to the Melville Community Foundation as gifts of remembrance.
