Obituary of Connie Stewart

STEWART - Constance Eileen Mary Stewart (nee Gentleman) of St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville entered her eternal rest on November 18, 2012 at the age of 89 years. Constance daughter of Frederick and Theresa (nee Nobel) Gentleman, was born in Southall, Middlesex, England on December 19, 1922. "Connie" attended school in England until the age of fourteen, at which time her mother died and she began to work at home. The family later moved to Ashfort, Middlesex where Connie worked as a typist. In 1943, Connie enlisted with the Women's Royal Naval Service until the end of WWII. During the war, Connie met Robert (Bob) Stewart who was serving with the Canadian Army. On January 5, 1945 they were married in England and on April 9, 1946, Connie moved to Melville, Sk. Connie resided in Melville to raise her two children, Michael and Theresa. While in Melville, Connie was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and St Henry's Choir, an active participant in local activities including bowling, curling, golfing and an avid fan of the Melville Millionaires. In her spare time, Connie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, reading and numerous other crafts; she was a regular participant in the local Farmer's Market. Connie and Bob enjoyed their regular camping trips to numerous locations throughout Canada and the U.S. After Bob's retirement in 1979, Connie enjoyed her winter getaways to warmer climates and was able to travel to England to visit family, and to Holland to attend war memorials. She always enjoyed her annual get-togethers with War Brides from across Canada. In 2005, Bob and Connie moved to Queen Victoria Estates in Regina. After Bob's passing in 2009, Connie continued living there until recently returning "home" to Melville. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob in 2009; parents Frederick and Theresa Gentleman; sister Madelaine; brother Bernard; sister-in-law Elsie Anaka; brothers-in-law Charles, Jim and Wes Stewart. She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory: son, Michael (Enid Llort) Stewart, grandchildren Mikey (Gwen) Stewart and Tania Stewart; daughter, Theresa (Blair) Gerhardt; grandchildren Dean (Nicole) Gerhardt, Jennifer (Kevin) Knoblauch, Alicia (Kyle Miller) Gerhardt; great-grandchildren Bentley Gerhardt, Sophie and Mason Knoblauch; and step-sister Wendy (Michael) Kite.
