Obituary of Melvin Foss

FOSS - Mr. Melvin Foss, a resident of the Gateway Lodge in Canora passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012 following a lengthy illness. He was 87 years of age. Melvin Selmer Foss was born on Jan. 07, 1925 on the family farm nine miles north of Buchanan, son of Tollef and Elizabeth (nee Haugland) Foss, Norwegian pioneers. Melvin attended Wergeland School and after leaving his formal education, commenced helping on the family farm. Melvin and his brother Ken operated the family farm until 1997. Melvin was an avid reader and was known along with his brothers, for faithfulness to the Chevrolet and Minneapolis product lines. Melvin served in the Canadian Forces. He had a life long interest in airplanes and cars. As a youth Melvin was renowned for his skill with a sling shot. Predeceased by his parents, Tollef and Elizabeth, three siblings in infancy, brothers Telmer and Ken and sisters, Belle Wilkie and Clara Bestward, Melvin will be lovingly remembered by his nephew Duncan (Laurie) Wilkie and their children, Scott and Jennifer of Edmonton, AB, as well as many dear friends and neighbours. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, November 5, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church in Buchanan with Pastor Carlyle Johnson officiating. The organist, Val Edwards led in the singing of the hymns, "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". The interment followed in theElim Lutheran Cemetery.
