Obituary of Andrew Sebulski

SEBULSKI - Mr. Andrew Sebulski beloved husband of the late Mary Sebulski of the Sheho district entered his eternal life on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was ninety four years of age. Andrew Joseph Sebulski was born February 17, 1918 to Joseph and Anne (Daciw) Sebulski, on the family farm in the Sheho District. Andrew attended Fosti School for 10 years and 2 years at St. Joseph's College in Yorkton. While at St. Joseph's College on September 22, 1939 he joined the Knights of Columbus. He had been a charter member of various councils. Andrew was a Life Member of the Foam Lake Council and Honorary Life 4th Degree of Brother Stanislaus Assembly, Yorkton. He attended Saskatoon Normal School and received his teaching certificate in 1939. He started teaching at Maxwelton School near Fenwood in July, 1939. In July 1942, Andrew enlisted in the Canadian Army, Anti Air Craft Battery 31, 28 Regiment and took his basic training in Esquimalt, BC. He was posted to National Defence Head Quarters, Ottawa, in Administration, Top Secret Colonel Catheacts Office and discharged in August 1946. In May of 1946 Andrew met the love of his life, Mary, at a Catholic Youth Convention in Toronto. They continued correspondence by mail until June when Andy visited Sudbury and after 5 days, Andy decided to get married. On September 29, 1946 they were united in marriage in Sudbury and resided in Sudbury for a year. In 1947 the couple moved to Saskatchewan where Andrew was hired by the Foam Lake School Unit and taught at country schools in the Sheho district. He retired from teaching in 1975 in Sheho after 33 years. The same year he was elected as a board member to the Shamrock School Unit for 7 years. Andrew owned the Massey Fergusson Agency in Sheho from 1949 to 1988. He also farmed and was still very involved in the family farm operation. He had been very active in the community of Sheho, a charter member of the Sheho Royal Canadian Legion #356 and editor of the Sheho Legion History Book and a pillar of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in the Insinger district. His greatest joy was spending time with his precious grandchildren. He loved and cherished them dearly, and was very proud of their achievements and accomplishments. He always attended their concerts, dance recitals or sports events. Andrew and Mary enjoyed traveling in their retirement. Andrew was a very kind and generous person at all times to everyone. Gedo loved playing cards and reminiscing of the past with his grandchildren and family. Andrew was predeceased by his wife Mary in 2005, his parents Joseph and Anne, brothers Mike, Freddie, Matt, Michael and Steve, sisters Jennie Wolos, Bella Versta, Jessie Voision, Mary Claments, Cecelia and Verna. He leaves to celebrate his life, his two children, Mary Ann and Andy, daughter-in-law Diane; his three grandchildren, Andrea (Nathan) Gilborn of Edmonton, Adam of Saskatoon and Dana of Saskatoon; brother, Emil of Sheho; sisters, Lovelean Malinowski of Theodore and Athanasia Kasperski of Terrace, BC and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Prayer Services were held on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in the Insinger district with Rev. Father Raymond Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, October 26, 2012 from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R. and Bishop Emeritus Michael Wiwchar, C.Ss.R. Concelebrating. The responses were sung by Ed Pindus and parish choir members. The crossbearer was Michael S. Medvid. The Epistle reading was given by Angeline Sebulsky. Leonard Sebulsky was the altar server. Andrea Gilborn and Dana Sebulski were memorial book attendants. Honourary Bearers were Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Sheho Branch #356 and Fourth Degree Members of the Knights of Columbus Brother Stanislaus Assembly #1286. Legion Members performed the Legion Tribute Service and formed an honour guard. Interment followed in the parish cemetery with Adam Sebulski, Ron Sebulsky, Nathan Gilborn, Chad Sebulsky, Deron Malinowski and Randy Sebulsky serving as the casketbearers. Memorials in memory of Andrew may be made towards Mass Offerings, the St. Nicholas Parish Cemetery Fund or to the Yorkton Regional Health Centre for ICU equipment as gifts of remembrance.
