STOUT - Peter Rousay Stout beloved husband of Mrs. Ivy Stout of Yorkton passed away peacefully in his home and surrounded by his loving wife and family on Sunday, October 14, 2012 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan at the age of 86. He was predeceased by his parents, John "Jock" William Miller Stout (1894-1980) and Mary (Mainland) (1900-1984), and brother Lawrence Stout (1930-2000), all of Yorkton. Peter was born on a farm near Yorkton on January 12, 1926 to John (Jock) and Mary (Mainland) Stout. He attended St Magnus School then graduated in 1944 from the Yorkton Collegiate Institute. He continued his education at the University of Edmonton, completing one year of Engineering. On May 1, 1945, Peter enlisted in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. We all know Peter was a great dancer, and even in the Navy, he danced. While in Windsor, Ontario, he would venture across the border to dance to some of the "big bands" in Detroit. After the war, he returned home to help on the family farm. At a local dance, he met the love of his life, Ivy Wales, and the two were married at St. Andrew's Church on August 12, 1947; they would continue dancing and enjoying each other's love for more than 65 years. Soon after they were married, Peter became a Welder/Mechanic by taking advantage of a course sponsored by the Department of Veteran's Affairs. Peter was honest and worked hard as a mechanic, meeting many wonderful people over the years at workplaces including Irwin's Garage in Tantallon, the R.M. of Orkney, S&W Service Garage in Ebenezer, Lorne Buckle Ltd. in the Pas, Manitoba, Matheson Brothers, and E. Shindle Construction. He finished his career after 19 years with the Yorkton Department of Highways, retiring as shop foreman at age 65. Peter was a great inventor… creating, testing and overseeing many inventions of his design used at work and on the farm. Regardless of where he was employed, Peter took great pride in his work and said he never had a job he did not like! Peter was a great family man and enjoyed helping his children on the farm. He loved nature and animals. He enjoyed more than a few hands of bridge and after his retirement enjoyed the odd round of golf. Peter was a founding member of Yorkton Scottish Country Dancers and the Yorkton and District Pipeband. These groups have always been like family to him and they will find comfort in their memories of the many band trips and Saturday nights at "Peter's Place". He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Orkney Historical Society, Yorkton Scottish Society and the Town and Country Square Dancers. Peter loved life, and people could not help but enjoy his energy. The incredible love he shared with Ivy sustained his life. He was so very proud of his family and at least one of his children, grandchildren, or in-laws visited with him each day. We feel so lucky that even in his last weeks, we enjoyed lots of laughter with him. He had such a great sense of humor. He said to Dianne a few years ago "all we really need is LOVE"…AND he sure gave us all lots of that, in return, he received much love from all who knew him. He will be thoroughly missed. Peter leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Ivy of Yorkton; his eldest son Jack (Denise) of Yorkton and their children, Robert (Patti) Stout of Yorkton, Jodi (Erin) Found of Regina (Brock, Matthew, and Cameron), and Rebecca (Errin) Reed of Grande Prairie (Katie, James and Luke); daughter Loree Stout (BrianYoung) of Calgary and their children, Fraser and Emma of Calgary; daughter Dianne (Doug) Norman of Yorkton; son Peter (Lorrie) Stout of Yorkton and their children Alyson of Kelowna, Graeme of Edmonton, and Kirsten of Saskatoon; daughter Mary-Ellen (Brian) Harrison of Calgary and their children, John, Sam, and Dianne all of Calgary; and daughter Patti (Rick) Wilk of Saskatoon and their children, MacKenzie (Miranda Ryczak ), Logan and Callie all of Saskatoon. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Betty Stout of Yorkton and his relatives over in Orkney Isles, Scotland, and special niece and nephew Shirley and Brian Jennings.
