Obituary of Richard Litzenberger

LITZENBERGER - Mr. Richard Litzenberger of Yorkton, beloved husband of Lorraine passed away at his home on the morning of Monday September 10, 2012. He was 65 years of age. Richard Allan Litzenberger was born in Melville, SK on April 5, 1947 to Philip and Olga Litzenberger. He grew up on the family farm with his three sisters Emily, Shirley and Joyce. In 1969 he married Lorraine Katherine Schaffel and they had two sons, Kirby Dean (1973) and Kelly Richard (1976). Richard farmed with his father until Philip's retirement. He continued on the family farm until becoming owner of Indy's Marine Service in 1986. The family moved to Yorkton the following year. Richard then went on to work at Harvest Meats for 8 years before starting a landscaping business. After his second business ownership, Richard worked at Maple Farm Equipment during the 10 years prior to his retirement in January. He enjoyed spending time camping, travelling, fishing and playing cards with friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine, of 43 years and his two sons Kirby and Kelly as well as his sisters Shirley (Matt) Ulmer of Melville, SK and Joyce (Mike) Evanishen of Vernon, BC. Two months before passing, Richard was able to enjoy the birth of his first grandson, Benjamin Andrew. His mother Olga, father Philip and sister Emily (Gordon) Steffan of Melville predeceased Richard. A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating. Words of Remembrance were shared by Robert Riess. The interment took place in the Garden of Memories at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Ernie Lachowsky serving as the urn bearer. Memorials in memory of Richard can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation as gifts of remembrance.
