FLEGEL - Arnold Flegel beloved husband of Mrs. Doris Flegel of Melville, formerly of the Killaly district, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville, Sk. on July 28, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Arnold was born October 30th, 1935 on the family farm to Adam and Rose (Exner) Flegel. Arnold received his education at Flegel School. He met his lifelong love Doris Novak in 1955 and they were united in marriage in 1960. Arnold farmed alongside his father Adam until 1972 and then continued to farm on his own until 2002. Arnold was an active member in the Killaly community serving on Sask. Wheat Pool committee, recreation board, curling club and the school board. He was also active in the Catholic Church as a lay minister, lector, parish council and on deanery council for many years. He helped build St. Elizabeth's Church in Killaly and spent many years helping restore Mariahilf Chapel and graveyard. He was employed part time by Crop Insurance for over 9 years as a crop adjuster. In 2002, Arnold and Doris moved to Melville to retire. In his retirement, he had more time to do the things he always loved: golfing, curling, camping, going out for coffee, playing cards with friends and most of all spending more time with his family. Arnold always had a real passion for music, he played guitar in various polka bands for 25 years. Later on he and Doris enjoyed dancing at many polka fests where they met a lot of new and old friends. Arnold was predeceased by his parents Adam and Rose Flegel, Father and Mother-in-law Frank and Catherine Novak, 3 brothers-in-law and 1 sister-in-law. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Doris of 52 years; his 3 children, Charlene (Preston) Kraushaar of Melville and children Alicia (Chris) Ludwar and Tiffany (Daniel) Stoll; Maureen (Joey) Broda of Melville and children Katelyn (Mark) and Zachary; Gary (Raquel) Flegel of Martensville and children Bethany and Grace. His brothers, Gerald (Julie) Flegel, Joe (Anne) Flegel; sisters, Audrey (Dave) Bogdan and Donna Van Bevers; brother-in-law Jack (Margaret) Novak; sisters-in-law, Hilda Novak, Hilda (Sam) Streifel, Betty Exner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Prayer vigil was held on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church in Melville. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, August 2nd, 2012 from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church in Melville with Rev. Fr. Antoni Degutis O.M.I. as the Celebrant. Interment followed in St. Henry's Parish Cemetery in Melville. Memorials in memory of Arnold may be made to Mariahilf or St. Henry's Parish Memorial Funds as gifts of remembrance.
