KOBITZ - Douglas Brent Kobitz was born to Hilda (nee Schurr) and Alvin Kobitz on June 28, 1957. He passed away on July 9, 2012 at the age of 55 years old. Doug was united in marriage to Gail Schafer on August 22, 1986. They resided in Yorkton. For the past 27 years, Doug was employed with Maple Farm Equipment (John Deere Dealership) in Yorkton. He took pride in his work and enjoyed interacting with his coworkers. Doug had many interests. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and every board and card game, especially the comradery around the table, teasing all in his gentle manner. He was the best sales man when it came to garage sales and farmer markets, always trying to get the best deal. Doug was quite handy at renovating and small carpentry jobs. He was an avid TV/movie watcher, having full control of the remote. He also was a good baker, specializing in buns, slices, and cookies. Doug was laid back in nature. He may not have had his grass cut- but would be first to help others out at the drop of a hat. Doug is survived by his wife Gail, of 25 years, daughter Carrie, son Clayton, step sons Michael (Barb) Sheehan and Terry Sheehan, step daughter April Leader. Doug was very proud of his four grandchildren: Sera, Jane, Owen, and Stella. He also leaves to mourn his sisters Marilyn (OJ) Simpson, Laurie (Peter) Leniuk, brother Robert (Pat) Kobitz. Doug had 17 nieces and nephews and 18 great nieces and nephews, all who were his favorites. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Hilda and Alvin, a brother Barry Allen, parents in law Enid and William Schafer and a nephew Chad Schafer. The funeral service was held on Friday evening, July 13th, 2012 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Crystal Bailey, certified celebrant, officiated. Tributes to Doug were given by Gord Pries, brother-in-law OJ, and by Linus Jones. Poems were read by Todd Schafer and Crystal Lee. Musical selections were 'Amazing Grace' and 'Knockin on Heaven's Door'. A video tribute was played before the funeral and during the reception. The interment took place in the Garden of Memories with Michael and Terry Sheehan serving as the urnbearers. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home. Service Information
