Obituary of Mike Dumka

DUMKA - Mr. Mike Dumka, a resident of Yorkton, formerly of the Goodeve district entered eternal rest on July 2, 2012 in the Yorkton Regional Hospital. He was 93 years of age. Mike was born on September 23, 1918 to Matt and Irene (nee Burak) of Goodeve Saskatchewan. He was raised on a farm 10 miles south of Goodeve and attended Robert School, he then continued to farm with his parents. On October 25, 1942 he was united in marriage to Annie (nee Kozakavich) of the Goodeve district and together they farmed until 1997 when they retired to Yorkton. Mike was a loving father and grandfather. He loved life and truly enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Besides farming, he served as a councillor for 4 years in the R.M. of Stanley #215 and as Reeve for 18 years. His passion was curling, he curled for some 70 years in the Goodeve and surrounding districts and in Yorkton in the Senior Curling Club. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory his children Marlene (Charlie) Manastyrski, Irene (Raymond) Bohach, Norman (LaVern) Dumka, Robert Dumka, and Patty (Brian) Acton and his special friend Evelyn. Nine grandchildren: Carmen (Lynn) Goebel, Mark (Jackie) Manastyrski, Jeff (Melanie) Bohach, Jamie (Jodi) Bohach, Michael (Janine) Dumka, Jason (Sheri) Dumka, Douglas (Kristin) Acton, Darren (Darcy) Acton and Leanne (Jacob) Zacharias. Twelve great grandchildren: David, Nicole, Bailey, Ian, Dominik, Dmitri, Kiana, Kaiden, Emily, Sarah, Mackenzie and Lukas. Also his sisters, Nellie Karachok, Olga Bohay, Alice (Hugh) Burnie, Nadine Bohay and brother-in law Matt Bohay and numerous nephews, nieces and many other relatives and friends and neighbours. Mike was predeceased by his wife Annie in 2007, Annie (Peter) Herchak, Mary (Steve) Karachok, Toni (Harry) Woznesensky, Natalie Bohay and brothers-in-law Mike Karachok, Walter Bohay and Peter Bohay. The Prayer Service was held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The responses were led by William Kozey & Parish Choir members. The cross bearer was Darren Acton and the banner bearers were Carmen Goebel & Leanne Zacharias. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Mark Manastryski, Jeff Bohach, Jamie Bohach, Michael Dumka, Jason Dumka and Douglas Acton serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Mike may be made to the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
