Obituary of Matilda Gaura

GAURA - It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Matilda Gaura, late of Prince Albert, formerly of Melville. Matilda (Tillie) Gaura passed away at the Victoria Union Hospital in Prince Albert with her family by her side on Saturday, June 23, 2012. She was 95 years old. Tillie was born in the Brewer district of Saskatchewan on December 2, 1916 to Steve and Rose Potyondi (nee Bella). Tillie married Bill Gaura on September 18, 1939 in Brewer. Together they farmed in the Brewer District for 34 years. Tillie and Bill welcomed a daughter Darlene on January 21, 1950. Darlene was their only child and she was the center of their world and they both loved her more than life itself. In 1973, they retired from farming and moved into Melville. In 2000, Tillie moved to Prince Albert. She resided at Northcote Manor until her passing. She made many lasting friendships in her new home. Tillie enjoyed going to the CO-OP every morning for coffee with her friends. Tillie and her friends enjoyed many more adventures together as they were a close group. Her daughter and son-in-law and their family were thrilled to have her in Prince Albert with them. She was predeceased by her husband Emil (Bill) in 1992, her father Steve in 1937 and her mother Rose in 1986, sister Mary Steinmacher and her husband Tom; brother John, brother Steve and wife Irene, brother Julius and wife Dorothy; sister Margaret and husband Adolf and her brother Joe; also her father-in-law, Andrew Gaura in 1952, and her mother-in-law Anna Gaura (nee Klus) in 1984. Her granddaughters husband Michael Kornaga in 2008. She leaves to mourn her daughter Darlene and son-in-law Waynne Cowan, granddaughter Tammy and her daughters Lacey and Kaileigh Kornaga; granddaughter Tracy (Everett) and their daughters Rebecca and Brooklyn Bedard, all from Prince Albert; grandson Terry (Celine) and their daughters Alyssa and Kendra Cowan from Cold Lake, AB. Also sisters-in-law: Barbara Potyondi, Theresa Potyondio and Emily Pifko; numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home with Crystal Bailey, Certified Funeral Celebrant,officiating. Granddaughters Tracy and Tammy gave Tillie's eulogy. Three hymns were played: 'Just As I Am', 'Softly and Tenderly', and 'How Great Thou Art'. The interment took place at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Dean Pifko, Norman & Rick Cowan, Albert Potyondi, Everett Bedard and Dave Osicki serving as the casketbearers.
