Obituary of Ann Kaban

KABAN - Mrs. Ann Kaban of Yorkton entered eternal rest on June 12, 2012 at the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre. She was 82 years of age. Ann was born June 7, 1930 at Parkerview Saskatchewan; daughter of Pete and Katie (nee Wenz) Zuchkan. She was raised on the family farm and attended White Creek School. As a young lady she worked at Jedburgh Hotel and helped on the farm. She was a part of the Zuchkan family band with brother Matt, and sister Sophie and some of their neighbours which has carried on through the generations and still exists today. On October 21, 1951 she was united in marriage to Mike Kaban at St. Mary`s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Following their marriage the couple established their own farm seven miles south of Sheho up until 1973 when Mike and Ann sold the family farm and moved to Yorkton. Shortly thereafter she began employment at the Yorkton City Bakery followed by the Yorkton Hotel and then at the Holiday Inn. She later retired to enjoy her children and grandchildren. Ann suffered a stroke on April 15, 2012 followed by hospitalization in Yorkton and Saskatoon. She was then transferred to Ituna Pioneer Lodge on June 1, 2012 and passed away quietly on June 10, 2012 at the Lodge. Ann and family celebrated her 82 years young earlier that week. During her years on the farm Mike and Ann were blessed with five children. She enjoyed making perogies, cabbage rolls, knitting, visiting and going out for coffee at her favourite restaurant Mano`s. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends all of whom held special places in her heart. Predeceased by her beloved husband Mike Kaban, her parents Pete and Katie (nee Wenz), brother Matt and brother-in-law Jerry, and her mother and father in-law John and Anne Kaban. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory sons Gerald and his wife Lorrie of Yorkton, Larry and his wife Tracy of Yorkton, daughter Wendy of Yorkton, sons Wes and his wife Jan of Grand Prairie, and Ron of Yorkton. As well as eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister Sophie and husband Anany Holowaty of Saskatoon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Prayers were held on Wednesday, June 13th and the Requiem Divine Liturgy on Thursday, June 14th at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita & Parish Choir Members. The crossbearer was Jamie Kaban and the epistle reader was Kelly Kaban. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Tyler Conrad, Kyle Kaban, Tim Kaban, Jonathan Kaban, Cameron Ruf and Kadin Kaban serving as the casket bearers.
