Obituary of Maria Morley

MORLEY - Maria Morley - It is with great sadness that Maria's family announces her passing on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the age of 93, at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, surrounded by family and love. Maria was born in Lake Lenore, Sask. on Nov 20, 1918 to Joseph and Michaelina (Rieger) Stuckel. Maria received her education at the Stuckel Rural School in Lake Lenore. At the age of 16 she left home to work for her Aunt Mary, cooking and housekeeping. In 1937 she worked at Lake Lenore Hospital assisting the nurses and cooking. When the hospital closed in1939 she moved to Humboldt, Sask. to work. Maria loved dancing and attended many dances at Lake Lenore Pavilion and Stoney Lake area. It was at one of these dances, Maria met James Patrick Morley. They were united in marriage, Jan 18, 1940 at St. Augustine's Church in Humboldt. Within a year they moved to Yorkton, Sask. then onto Melville, Sask. in 1943 where James was hired on the CNR. In 1986, James passed on and Maria moved to a senior apartment where she resided almost 20 yrs. She was very involved with the Senior centre and enjoyed participating in the activities. Health concerns caught up with her. She moved briefly into a care home in Ituna, Sask. then on to a care home in Saskatoon, Sask. She lived there comfortably till recently becoming ill. Between the years of 1942 and 1955, Maria and James had five children. Maria was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was blessed with a beautiful personality, a twinkle in her eyes and a gorgeous smile she easily shared. She was adored by everyone who knew her. Maria enjoyed many hobbies including: cooking, baking, gardening, walking, reading, music, bingos, cards, crossword puzzles, and hockey games. She loved flowers, her favorite being the rose. Her favorite song was, "When I Grow to Old to Dream". Maria embraced life, her favorite poem being "The Clock of Life" by Robert H. Smith. Religion was Maria's inspiration and she was a devoted member of St. Henry's Church and the Catholic Woman's League (CWL). She was also an Advocate for the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows and a longstanding member of the Lady Trainmen. Maria was predeceased by her husband, James; son, Dana; daughter in law, Cheryl Morley; parents, Joseph and Michaelina Stuckel; sister, Agnes (Alfred) Wall; brothers, Andrew, Frank, Joseph Jr, Mathias (Katie), John (Joan) and brother in law, Ed Stroeder. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her sons: Wayne (Denise) of Saskatoon, Bruce of Watson, Vance (Pam) of Edmonton; daughter, Ila (Ed) Stachowich of Melville; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchilden. She is also survived by one sister, Ann Stroeder of Edmonton, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, staff and Palliative Care at St. Paul's Hospital. Thank you to Betty and caregivers at the Betty Sandulak Care Home in Saskatoon and to Dr Harrington for all the care and kindness shown to Maria. Arrangements were by Bailey's Funeral Home, Melville.
