SIMON - Andrew George Simon passed away on April 23, 2012. He was born Feb. 10, 1927 in Zempl&egraven'Megye, Hungary. He immigrated to Canada in 1929 at the age of 2 with his mother and sister, Betty to join his father and uncle who had settled in the Otthon district previously. After he had finished school, he worked as a hired hand and went to Ontario for a short period of time to work in a steel mill. He returned to Otthon and again worked as a hired hand for a local farmer. nd He was united in marriage to Etta Wright on July 2 , 1949 at the Holy Trinity Church in McKim, Saskatchewan. She was a school teacher in Otthon and a friend of his sister Anne. The couple rented land for two years, then purchased a half section and farmed with Andrew's father and uncle. The couple had three children - Sylvia, Ted and Karen. The family moved to Calgary in the winter of 1957, where Andrew was employed at Maple Leaf Flour mill. In the spring they returned to the farm. He loved farming and enjoyed playing in a band with the Varga boys, as well as playing cards, horseshoe and getting together with the neighbors to whip up a batch of sausage. He was on the West Otthon School Board, Otthon Hall Board and was a member of the Legion. He continued farming until their retirement to Yorkton in 1982. After retirement, he worked for Purolator and later for Bob Reitenbach delivering cars for Bob's dealership. He then worked happily as a hired hand for daughter Karen and husband Micheal for 25 years, enjoying being a farmer without having to pay the bills. Following the death of Etta in 2010, Andrew continued to live in his home until moving into the Gladstone Assisted Living in 2011. Acceptance was gradual but eventually it became "home" with all the staff being known as his "kids".
