Obituary of Jean Lewko

LEWKO - Jean Lewko, beloved wife of the late Nestor Lewko of Ituna passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Ituna and District Pioneer health Care Centre. She was 84 years of age. Jean Lewko was born on June 14, 1927 on the farm in the Lipton district of Saskatchewan; a daughter of Katherine (nee Wingerak) and Anton Kotylak. She attended the Beresford School. When her parents moved to the Jasmin district, she worked in Jasmin at a gas station, and then in Yorkton as a nurse's aide. In May of 1951 she was united in marriage to Nestor Lewko. They were blessed with a son Laverne in 1952. Nestor & Jean managed the John Deere dealership in Ituna for a number of years. The couple then sold the shop but continued to farm for a number of years until their retirement. Jean had been a resident of the Ituna and District Pioneer Health Care Centre since 2006. Predeceased by her husband Nestor on April 2nd; her son Laverne in 1993; her parents, Anton & Katherine; and by brothers William, Joe and Jerry Kotylak. She is survived by her two granddaughters: Erin & Kelly, both of Regina; a sister, Mary King of Kelliher; and numerous nieces, nephews, and her many other relatives in the Kotylak and Lewko families. Prayers were held on Wednesday, April 25th and the funeral service on Thursday, April 26, 2012, all from the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ituna. Rev. Archpriest Peter Wasylenko was the Celebrant.. Cantors, Bill and Anne Kozey, led in the singing of the responses. The crossbearer was Andrew Byblow, and the bannerbearers were Ed Faye and Gordon Kotylak. The interment took place in the Parish Cermetery with Ron Kaminsky, Jeremy Kotylak, John Haggerty, Darcy King, Ken Kotylak and Kyle Kotylak serving as the casketbearers.
