Obituary of Judith Leslie

LESLIE - Judi Leslie, beloved wife of Bryon of Yorkton passed away on April 14, 2012. She was 61 years of age. Born Judith Lesley Allen on May 9, 1950 at Langford, BC; she was a daughter of David Allen and Verna (nee Ferguson). Judi's father was with the Canadian military, as with most military families, they were stationed at various points across the country during her younger years. As a young woman, Judi began training in Ponoka, Alberta to become a registered psychiatric nurse. She trained at several places, but while working in Regina she met Bryon Leslie and the couple wed on August 27, 1976 in Weyburn, Sk. The couple resided in Weyburn for a short time before moving to make their home in Yorkton. Once settled in Yorkton, Judi began her RPN career with the local health district, working mostly in the Park Unit of the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. During these years Judi also became a mother to three daughters, Trista, Jillian & Meaghan. As work related injuries limited her, Judi eventually took an early retirement in 2008 from the hospital. Throughout this time, she was determined to make the best of her situation through a positive outlook. Judi enjoyed travelling especially to both coasts, Edmonton, and North Dakota. Figure skating was a passion to her, both watching her daughters competively and on TV. She loved to take pictures and scrapbook all the memories. Judi's family was the most important to her. Holidays were an event and a tradition of being together no matter how far apart. Her four grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She was known as Nana or Ama to them and whatever they wanted, they got. She was never more than a phone call away, day or night. Judi always had a shoulder to cry on and knew the answer to every question whether we asked it or not. She will be deeply missed by all family and friends. Predeceased by her parents; she is survived by her husband Bryon; daughters: Trista (Chad) VanWinkle of Minot, North Dakota; Jillian Leslie of Yorkton; and Meaghan Leslie of Yorkton; four special grandchildren: Shaylee, Makayla and Jayce VanWinkle; and Aidan Leslie. Also two brothers: Bryan (Agnes) Allen of Spruce Grove, AB; and Mike Allen of Souris, PEI; nieces and nephews: Jason (Kirsten), Shane and Lisa Allen; Brandy (Shane) and Sean Stewart; Sean, Maeghan, Rebeccah, and Breanna Allen. Mother-in-law Doreen Leslie and brother-in-law Rick Stewart of Weyburn. Close friends: Darlene Neuman and Bev Piontek, Lorne Blahut (close friend and confidante to Judi and Bryon Leslie) and many more family and friends. The funeral service was held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Steve Rosluk of First Baptist Church officiating. Organist, Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the hymns 'Just As I Am' and 'Amazing Grace'. The interment took place in the Garden of Memories.
