Obituary of Nestor Lewko

LEWKO - Nestor Lewko, resident of the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre, beloved husband of Jean, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012. He was 85 years of age. Nestor was born on August 5, 1926 in the Ituna district of Saskatchewan; a son of Stanley and Mary (nee Kozun) Lewko. Nestor was raised on the family farm and attended the Beaverside School. As a young man he helped on the home farm until the death of his father. In May of 1950 he was united in marriage to Jean Kotylak at Kelliher. In 1952 Nestor operated a John Deere dealership in Ituna until selling it in early 1970's. Throughout this time he farmed as well until his full retirement in 2008. As his health declined Nestor became a resident of St. Anne's Home in Ituna, where he resided until July of last year, when he became a resident of the Ituna Pioneer Lodge. Predeceased by his parents, a son Laverne in 1993; by brothers Eugene in 1945 and Roman in 2002; also a sister, Nadien Hoganson in 2009. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife Jean in the Pioneer Lodge; two granddaughters; Erin & Kelli of Regina; brothers: Merle (Zennia) of Oshawa, ON; and Walter (Arlene) of Kelowna BC; sisters: Eleanor Zich of Yorkton and Sylvia (Andrew) Byblow of Springside; numerous nieces, nephews, and his many other relatives and friends. The prayer service was held on Monday evening, April 9, 2012 and the funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, all from the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ituna. Very Rev. Archpriest Peter Wasylenko was the celebrant. Cantor, William Kozey led in the singing of the responses. The banner bearers were Jerry & Glen Kitzul and the cross bearer was Steve Rudy. The interment took place in the Parish Cemetery with Ed Faye, Gordon Kotylak, Merle Lewko, Jerry Dorosh, Danny Kozun and Eugene Kozun serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in Nestor's memory may be made to the Alzheimers Society (c/o Bailey's - 45 5th Ave. N. Yorkton, S3N 0Y9). Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
