Obituary of Nick Stefanyshyn

STEFANYSHYN - Mr. Nick Stefanyshyn, formerly of the Whitesand district entered eternal rest on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. He was 86 years of age. Nick was born on October 15, 1925 in the Whitesand district of Saskatchewan, one of twelve children born to Dmytro and Mary (nee Shumay) Stefanyshyn. He was raised on the family farm and attended Beblo School. As a young man, Nick remained on the family farm and eventually took over the farming operation, as well as acquiring more land over the years. He farmed for over 50 years in the district, retiring in 1996. On July 15, 1988 Nick was united in marriage to Christine Chorney. After his retirement from farming, Nick and Christine moved to Calder where they lived until her death on August 24, 2005. Following that time, Nick moved back to Yorkton where he had been residing with his sister Marian. On January 16, 2006 Nick became a resident of Yorkton & District Nursing Home. Nick was predeceased by his parents Dmetro & Mary Stefanyshyn; half-brother John Diak; brothers Nicky in infancy, Mike and Bill; sisters Dora Byblow, Marge Krywy, Anne Byblow, Peggy Gilmer, Pauline Prokopetz , and Marian Stefanyshyn - Bugoy. He leaves to cherish his memory his sister Nellie Marchuk of Chilliwack, BC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, April 4th at the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in Yorkton with Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church officiating. The responses were led by Ed Pindus, Colette Karapita and St. Mary's Choir Members. The interment took place at Yorkton City Cemetery with Peter Kucher, Henry Stefanyshyn, Bill Shumay, Henry Shumay, Dennis Spelay and Wayne Clark serving as the casket bearers.
