Obituary of Elsie Marteniuk

MARTENIUK - Mrs. Elsie Marteniuk, formerly of Calder, widow of Peter entered eternal rest on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home. She was 97 years of age. Elsie was born on May 7, 1914 in the Zorra district, a daughter of Ted and Mary (nee Shullman) Krill. She received her education at Chornawka School and helped her parents on the farm. On November 26, 1936 she was united in marriage to Peter Marteniuk at St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Calder. The couple lived in Arborfield for a short time before commencing to farm in the Calder district. They retired from farming in 1974 and moved to Calder. Elsie enjoyed crocheting, cooking, baking and gardening. She made sure no one left her home hungry. During her younger years, Elsie was a faithful member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Elsie remained in her home until 0ctober 24, 2011. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Pat Klem of Calder; grandson Barry Klem of Calder; a sister Victoria Miller of Regina; two cousins George Prokopetz of Chilliwack and Elsie Denault of Hall, Quebec; cousin-in-law Leona Boudreau of Toronto and sisters-in-law Lena Kozmaniuk of Roblin and Jean Martin of Capreol, ON. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Peter in 1999; son-in-law Fred Klem; brothers, Nick in infancy and John Krill; and sisters Dora Blahut, Margaret Nagy and Rose Kwizak. The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, March 14th at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Faye L. Greer of Westview United Church officiating. The organist, Amanda Buhler led in the singing of the hymns, "In The Sweet By and By" and "Amazing Grace". The interment took place in the Garden of Crucifixion at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Gerald Shymko, Ronald Scraba, Ivan Morash, Terry Marteniuk, Ray Danylko and Darryl Flunder serving as the casket bearers.
