Obituary of Emil Cymbalisty

CYMBALISTY - It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Dr. Emil Cymbalisty. Emil was born on August 14, 1926, on the farm at Donwell, Saskatchewan, the fourth child of Michael and Anna (nee Chocholik) Cymbalisty. Raised on the family farm with his four siblings, Emil attended the one room country school, "Bogucz". His secondary education was completed at Canora High School and Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon. In 1945 Emil ventured to Toronto to attend the Canadian Memorial Chiropractor College. After four years of study he was part of the first graduating class - "The Class of '49" and the youngest student to graduate. While in Toronto, Emil met Annie Yarema. They dated for four years and were married on August 13, 1949. Last August they were fortunate to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary. Emil and Annie raised their children in Yorkton and remained there until his passing. Dr. Emil established a successful and respected chiropractic practice in Yorkton in 1951. After 60 years of practice he retired in the fall of 2010. His passion was his chiropractic practice and he took great satisfaction in helping people. Patients travelled from across North America and even some from Europe and Australia, to get relief from their pain. A short retirement was enjoyed at the cabin at Good Spirit Lake, where Emil enjoyed the tranquility, the sun on his deck, the wildlife and birds, and time with his loving family - this was Emil's paradise. Emil had a strong faith in God and was a devoted member of Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton for 60 years. From 1951 until the last few years when his health started to fail, Emil took an active part in the Ukrainian Orthodox Choir. Dr. Emil was an involved member of his church and his community and took on many leadership roles: Past President of Yorkton Lions Club, a loyal member for over 35 years; Founding Member and Past President of the Yorkton Ukrainian Self Reliance League (T.Y.C. Ukrainian Orthodox Men's Association); member of the Order of St. Andrew's Association; member of the Ukrainian Business and Professional Men's Club; member of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress; Past President of Simpson Home and School Association; minor sports coach for his sons' hockey and baseball teams; supporter of the Ukrainian National Museum of Canada and Petro Mohyla Institute. Dr. Emil was awarded by His Beatitude Metropolitan Ilarion with a Certificate of Recognition for his service to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Emil cherished his wife, Annie, his children, his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter beyond anything else. Predeceased by his son, Glenn; parents, Michael and Anna Cymbalisty; sister, Natalka Kindrachuk; and two brothers, Orest and John Cymbalisty. He leaves to mourn, his soul mate and wife of 62 years, Annie; his son, Bob (Karen); his daughter, Barbara (Al) Jamieson; one sister, Sally Skwarchuk; grandchildren, Colin Cymbalisty, Shawn Cymbalisty, Mark (Shannon) Cymbalisty, Tara Cymbalisty, Bryce (Meghan) Jamieson, Melissa Jamieson (fiancé, Matt Schwann), Lanny Jamieson, and great-granddaughter, Claire Cymbalisty, all of whom he treasured dearly.
