Obituary of William Lupescu

LUPESCU - William Lupescu was born on March 2, 1923 on the family farm south of Jasmin; the fourth child and elder son of Alexander and Sophia (nee Todas) Lupescu. He was raised on the family farm and attended St. Joseph de Dauphinais School. Upon the death of his father in 1940, Bill, along with his younger brother Jack, took over the family farm. They raised foxes, cattle, and other farm animals, along with their mixed grain operation. Bill remained on the farm for the rest of his life. He still helped with combining this last September. Bill will be remembered as a quiet, generous, kind person, who would always put others before himself. Throughout his farming years, Bill had been a long time member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool (Viterra), both in Jasmin and Ituna. He was also a long time Knights of Columbus member, serving the organization for over 50 years. He was the last surviving founding member of Fr. Henrich Boels, Ituna Knights of Columbus #5320. Bill was a faithful member of Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Jasmin and later of Sacred Heart Church in Ituna. (He had helped build both churches.) After a brief illness, Bill became a resident of St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville on December 11, 2011, where he passed away quietly on Friday, January 27, 2012. He was 88 years of age. Predeceased by his father Alexander in 1940, his mother Sophia in 1952; sisters: Ann (Sam) Spikula and Mary Lupescu; his brother-in-law, Gerald Rolph, and a nephew, Darrell Spikula in infancy.
