Obituary of Arnold Bearden

BEARDEN - Arnold Roy Bearden of Abernethy, Saskatchewan passed away suddenly at his home. He was 71 years of age. Roy was born on June 8, 1940 at Abernethy, Saskatchewan a son to Eva and Leslie (nee McConnell) Bearden. He received his education at Abernethy. When his dad passed away, Roy continued to reside at home to care for his mother. He started working at the Abernethy Co-op when he was 16 and continued to work there until his retirement acting as store manager for over 30 years. Roy was actively involved in the community and was a member of the Lions, the Legion and town council. He an attended and supported Knox United Church. Roy loved to fish and some of the greatest memories made were during the trips to Jan Lake. Many awards were won by uncle Roy every year at the Abernethy Fair where he was well known for his pickles. Christmas never started for Roy's young nieces until he had arrived in Winnipeg. He was indulgent and loving leaving them with very fond memories. Roy was a lifelong and valued member of the community as well as a much loved uncle, nephew, brother and friend. Predeceasing Roy were his mother and father (Eva and Leslie), older brother, (Bob), niece Peggy and grand niece Jacqueline. Left to mourn are Aunt Alice Ivey; sister-in-law, Marcella Bearden; nephew, Ron (Lindy) Bearden; nieces, Noreen (Craig) Merritt, Adrienne (Stu) Tkachuk, Carol Clay; life long friend, Eileen Gaye; beloved dog Cricket and numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Memorial Service was held on January 30, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from Knox United Church in Abernethy, Saskatchewan with Rev. Brian Mee Officiating. Organist Nancy Garratt and members of the church choir led in the hymns, "I Come To The Garden", "How Great Thou Art" and "God Be With You, Till We Meet Again". Interment followed in the Abernethy Town Cemetery with Ron Bearden as the urn bearer.
