BERES - George, the fifth child of Julius and Caroline (nee Hegyi) was born on June 30th, 1912 in the Saxon Hill District, Saskatchewan. He passed away late Tuesday evening December 20th, 2011 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home where he resided since November, 2005. George attended schools in Oak Hill, Stockholm, and Look Out, in Saskatchewan. When George was at the tender age of 6 years, his father passed away due to the 1918 flu epidemic. Under the strength and determination of his mother, George and his siblings worked very hard to make ends meet. In his younger years, George went to Ontario to work, but soon returned home to the love of the land and farming. His team of horses were his pride and joy. George was united in marriage to Elizabeth Bodie on June 8th, 1942. They were blessed with three children. George requested his children to work hard, do their best in whatever project they were doing, and respect others. George was a faithful member of St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2031. In his pastime, George enjoyed endless cribbage matches, tinkering in his garage, attending a rodeo or two during the summer, going for coffee with his friends, drives in the country, and going to the farm to check out the livestock and crops. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. George was predeceased by his daughter, Doreen Sawchyn, in 2006, his parents (Julius and Caroline), siblings Mary (Emerick) Kormos, John (Alice) Beres, Steve (Mary) Beres, Julius (Irene) Beres, Joe Beres, Margaret (Mike) Nagy, and Matilda Lisik, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Steve and Anna Bodie, his brothers-in-law, Mike Bodie, Frank (Victoria) Bodie, and Steve Bodie, and sister-in-law, Mary Bodie (in infancy) and Shirley (Swannie) Cox; as well as several nieces and nephews. George leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his wife Elizabeth of 69 years, daughter Elaine, son Meryle and his wife Marilyn, very special grandchildren and their families: Kim Carlton of Surrey, B.C. and her daughters Jessica and Lexi, Trent (Colleen) Beres, of Melville and their daughters Trinitie and Cassidy, Garett (Breanne) Beres of Yorkton and their son Grady, Jenelle (Jeremy) Ottenbreit of White City and their daughter Torren; his in-laws including Mary Bodie, Margaret (Bud) Fleming, Alex Bodie, Joe (Heddy) Bodie, Muriel Bodie, and Don Grant; as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.The prayer vigil service was held on Monday evening, December 26, 2011 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton. Prayers were led by Father Francis Hengen, the Lector was Kim Carlton, and Janelle Ottenbreit gave the eulogy. Pianist, Katherine Flaman led in the hymns 'Amazing Grace', Psalm 23, 'Prayer of St Francis', and 'Be Not Afraid'. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday morning, December 27, 2011 from St. Gerard's Church with Father Francis as the Celebrant. The cross bearer was Willy Silbernagel, the Lectors were Jessica Slater & Bernice Glowa, and Trent Beres offered the prayers of the faithful. The gift-bearers were Garett, Breanne and Grady Beres. Pianist, Lorraine Lysak led members of St. Gerard's Parish Choir and the congregation in the hymns 'Morning Has Broken', Psalm 25, 'Something Which is Known', 'Blest Are They', 'On Eagles Wings', 'Song of the Angels' and 'How Great Thou Art'. Members of the Knights of Columbus, Council #2031 attended the service and formed an Honour Guard. The interment followed in the Garden of Crucifixion at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Kim Carleton, Trent Beres, Janelle Ottenbreit, Garett Beres, Ray Beres and Bradley Nagy serving as the casketbearers.
