Obituary of Tillie Renkas

RENKAS - Mrs. Tillie Renkas of St. Paul Nursing Home in Melville, formerly of Ituna peacefully passed away on December 8th, 2011 with family at her side. She was 89 years of age. Tillie was born on November 2, 1922, a daughter to John and Anastasia (nee Leshyn) Shubaly. She grew up in the Hubbard district. On July 15, 1941 she was united in marriage to Joseph Renkas. The couple raised 9 children living in Hubbard then Ituna district. Tillie was a talented athlete who enjoyed curling and playing ball. When she no longer actively participated, she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren in sporting activities. Tillie was a member of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Ituna and was very proud to have recently received her 40 year CWL pin. She will always be remembered for her love and devotion to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her greatest passion was cooking wonderful meals that were enjoyed by everyone who came into her home. She had a great sense of humour, was extremely generous and loved practical jokes. In April of 2007 she moved to St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville. She made many friends and loved to tease her caregivers. She is predeceased by her husband Joseph in August 1988, her son Casey in February 2011, her parents John and Anastasia Shubaly, her brothers John, Adam, Mike, Sidney, Joe, Bernie and her sisters Annie, Mary, Pauline, Julia and Rosie. She leaves to cherish her memory her 8 children, sons Lawrence (Fran), Leonard (Rosalie), Ron (Staffa), Larry (Jodi), Cameron (Linda), daughters Valerie (Lorne) Lewko, Louise (Clint) Molesky, Colleen (Con) Gherasim, daughter- in-law Eleanor, 26 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren and sister Georgina (Mike) Obuck. She leaves a total of 97 immediate family members. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Paul's Lutheran Home in Melville for the excellent care given to our mother for the past 4½ years. You truly were family to her, she loved you all! Prayers were held on Sunday, December 11th and the Funeral Mass on Monday, December 12th at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Ituna with Rev. Father Albert Schmitz as the Celebrant. The organist, Paulette van der Helm led members of St. Stanislaus Choir in the singing of the hymns. The reader at the Prayers was Cara Renkas (Granddaughter) and at the Mass were Lana Reeves (Granddaughter) & Scott Gherasim (Grandson). Prayers of the Faithful were led by Michelle Stevenson (Granddaughter). Serving as the Gift Bearers were Brittany Renkas & Jackie Berube (Granddaughters. Serving as crossbearer was grandson, Brent Molesky. The eulogy was conveyed by David Renkas (Grandson). Members of the C.W.L. participated in a Honour Guard. The interment followed in the Ituna R.C. Cemetery with (Grandsons), Ryan Renkas, Dean Gherasim, Ben Renkas, Byron Ewert-Molesky, Terence Renkas, Shayne Lewko, Tracy Renkas and Randy Renkas serving as the casket bearers. Memorials honouring Tillie's life may be made to the Railway Crossing wing at St. Paul Nursing Home.
