Obituary of Theresa Sabadash

SABADASH - Mrs. Theresa Sabadash of Yorkton entered eternal rest on November 3, 2011 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. She was 76 years of age. Theresa Sabadash (Remarchuk) was born on February 5, 1935 to Steve and Pauline Remarchuk. Theresa was raised in the Cudworth district and it was there that she attended school and met her husband, John. They were married on July 20th, 1952 and spent 49 years together before John's death in 2001. Theresa and John laboured together on the family farm at Cudworth, then later went into the hotel business at Aberdeen, and lived in Prudhomme where John got into the grain buying business while Theresa stayed home to raise their kids. In 1968, they moved to Yorkton where John was a grain buyer for UGG and Theresa was employed as a meat wrapper at both OK Economy and Safeway. Yorkton became the place they made home for the remainder of their years. If there was something that defined Theresa, it was the love she had for her husband. John and Theresa would always be seen together, whether it was shopping, gardening, or just going for a drive. It wasn't uncommon to catch them holding hands and showing their affection toward one another. They often spoke candidly to their kids about the things that were necessary to make a marriage successful. Upon John's death, Theresa struggled a great deal to continue on without him by her side. She often spoke of her deep love for him and how difficult she found it to not have him near. Those who knew Theresa were familiar with her "amazing" cooking. There wasn't anyone who could make perogy dough quite as soft or make homemade chicken soup and noodles taste so good! She loved to cook for her kids and spoil them with all their favourites. It wasn't uncommon to get a call from her at the end of a busy work day to hear that she had supper prepared for her kids and grandchildren. Theresa also loved to shop! She loved to buy jewellery, big purses and nice clothes not only for herself but also with her daughter and grand- daughters in mind. When she fell ill and couldn't get out much, she would surprise her kids with the latest gadget or small appliance that she had discovered from the Shopping Channel. She looked forward to her weekly Friday hair appointments with Carrie and only when she became too weak did she find it necessary to give those up. She will always be remembered as a strong woman who was filled with determination and a strong will. Theresa demonstrated this right up until the time of her death and her caregivers commented on those qualities often. She was a mother who loved each of her children unconditionally. She often spoke of how she loved them "all the same" despite what may have been spoken or done in the past. Theresa was a woman of faith and by her own words "I am ready to live the rest of my life somewhere else" assured everyone that she was ready to leave her earthly home. Theresa will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her eldest son Larry Sabadash (Karen) of Estevan, Gordon Sabadash of Red Deer, and daughter Donna Kriger (Wally) of Yorkton. Theresa also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jennifer (Tim) Barnstable, Dawn (Robin) Rittaler, Leesa (Terry) Kuntz, Jerrod Sabadash, Rebecca and Sarah Kriger, as well as great grandchildren Ethan & Grace Barnstable, Nevaeh & Layla Rittaler, Emmy, Ashten, Kady, and Paysen Kuntz and a brother Ed Remarchuk of Saskatoon. Theresa was predeceased by her parents, her husband John in 2001, her brothers Frank and Victor Remarchuk, as well as her son, Don Sabadash in 1979. With her family by her side and with one last look of amazement in her eyes, Theresa left to meet her Lord and Saviour and to be reunited with those whom she loved and missed dearly. A mother, Baba, Great Grandmother, sister and friend......she will be truly missed. A prayer service was held on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Very Rev. Fr. Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R. of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church officiating. The responses were led by Ed Pindus & parish choir members. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Mark at Yorkton Memorial Gardens. Memorials honouring Theresa's life may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Pasqua Hospital or the Building Fund at Yorkton Regional Health Centre.
